A decent winter jacket that doesn't break the bank?
Discussion
I'd be interested to hear opinions on what's good and what to avoid. I'm mainly looking for something stylish, yet inexpensive for the daily commute. Not fussed about brand. Does cheap equal crap? Do I have to spend £200 to get something extremely warm, windproof, and waterproof? Or can it be done for £50 from a lesser known brand?
I specifically ask this question as I've discovered that Regatta are selling a lot of clothing that appears to fit the description, but at very reasonable prices.

The Regatta stuff is nice and great value, the cut is not quite as good as other pricier brands though but that’s being picky
But a lot of it is down to layering, a long sleeve thermal top next to the skin rather than a thin cotton tshirt is infinitely better. Good thermals can be had from Decathalon for not much more than a tenner like this

Waterproofing varies alot. A showerproof jackrt is useless at this time of year. It will get wet inside and take forever to dry.
You really do want wind and waterproof as warm andcdry is alot better than dry and frozen in the wind
The third jacket the OP linked is by far the best of his options for a winter coat.

In before people start suggesting £1,000 jackets.
I got a Jack Wolfskin jacket in the sale on ebay to replace a North Face one I'd had a few years. Its much better than I was expecting and better than North Face jackets double the price. Its nicer than the Regatta and Peter Storm jackets I was looking at too.

I found it super tough to find a jacket that was warm, dry and windproof all in one. After seeing a friend's, I ended up buying a Quba X10 about 10 years ago now and I still wear it regularly...including today. My wife also bought one a few months after me and her's is just the same.
Frankly, they're great value for a couple of hundred quid...and even better value if you can pick one up in a sale (like I did).

Dickies. Not as cheap as it now seems to have been picked up as a fashion brand, https://www.dickieslife.com/uk_en/waldenburg-jacke...
And these are superb, warm as anything & windproof. Regatta professional Dover Jacket https://www.regatta.com/mens-dover-fleece-lined-wa...

Also have a look at Trespass. I tried one on in an outlet and then found it for less than £100 on their eBay outlet. It is a beast of a thing and only worn during the coldest Scotish winter months. Waterproof with a fur edged hood. I think it is a DLX. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275442961796?hash=item4... now £42
Have a look at engelbert strauss, quality is superb.
More for work stuff, but you might find something you like and it will last you for years.

Bought two coats a few weeks ago - mostly as the zip on my 40 year old coat had broke (Thank you Greenhams)
One was a longer length one from Trespass at around £75 or £80 extremely warm, lined, waterproof, hood etc
The other a smarter slightly shorter more normal length is a Didrikson at about £160 from an independent outdoor store near home.
Can recommend both and the store if you're near west Scotland

Most of the Dickies stuff is from their casual wear line, workwear stuff is getting thin on the ground. Dickies workwear stopped trading in the UK last year. Their fashion stuff is nowhere near as good as the work stuff and way more expensive. And these are superb, warm as anything & windproof.
