Hi all,
Have any of you with fairly immediate build slots had options pulled?
No Burmester, no four zone climate, no black calipers, no tinted headlights, no exclusive design rear lights. More importantly, I've heard they're having to pull some basic functionalities with the cars as well - I've read no more electric steering wheel adjustment!

I'll be honest, the options are one thing, but delivering super expensive cars to customers that have waited a while with some basics taken out like seat and steering wheel adjustment isn't right. Not on a 'Turbo S' trim level.

Can anyone shed any light?

I've just ordered a Turbo S cab, so cant comment on the Porsche stuff, but I've read that LR are having supply issues with the higher up Meridean HiFi stuff and a few spec changes on, spec reduced, Autobiography models. Sounds like Porsche also have supply issues.

Ok, ok, I get your point.
But if you're spending over £150k, you'd think the manufacturer would have the decency to tell you before the car is delivered and you've had to pay for it.

they've seen you coming anyway and expect you to be grateful they've bothered to sell you a car

The least you’d expect is good communication. In most industries you’d be doing all you can to help your customer base and retain their future custom. The car industry seems much more fickle than that and the boot has very much been on their foot recently, so I guess they haven’t had to work too hard in this area. On the other hand, customers push for the lowest possible price with carwow style dealing etc.

I wonder if you could pass on this build slot in the understanding that you’ll have the next one. Who knows when the supply issues will be solved though.

If it’s not what you ordered and it hasn’t been communicated correctly reject the car.

The messaging I have is that they are restricting certain options on some cars so that those items are available to include on cars that have them as standard fit.

No direct experience, but it would annoy me a lot. Especially the blasé communication.

Are they not even reducing the price for the missing options?

Yes, they will be.

Earlier in the year some cars were delivered without the standard electric steering column, as parts were unavailable. The suggestion was that this would be retrofitted at a later date, but I think the current approach (in the US at least) is simply $1,500 compensation.

There is no way you will be charged for options you have not received.

I ought to be clear. My car hasn’t arrived - They’ve made it clear before spec even locked, what options can’t be added. Some I wanted, I can’t have, fine.

What I was/am concerned about is that they start taking more options away before delivery that I have specified, and also the car starts losing elements of the basic spec.
At this level, missing electric seats which are standard or steering wheel adjustment or whatever, and offering £350 off is utterly out of order - and not automatically communicating it the moment you know is completely unethical. Spend £160k on a luxury car and it’s got the same seat adjustment knobs as a Lada Trabant!

That Land Rover story linked above is a p155take.

These supply issues are affecting the whole automotive industry and have been for many months.
Large trucks or tractor units from the likes of Scania or Volvo are often being delivered without the passenger side electric window working or reading lights etc. Modern vehicles just require lots of ecu's so some door modules and like (non essential stuff basically) get pulled with the promise of a retrofit at a layer date. This means they can keep shipping their vehicles out or they would be parked in a field until the said modules become available.
Even BMW motorcycles have been hit with the latest GS models arriving with a halogen headlight and not the LED one. It comes with either a voucher for a full conversion to LED in the future or a £500 accessories voucher. They do however make you very aware the issue exists before ordering.
The alternative is thousands of motorcycles built and left in warehouses awaiting the supply of the LED headlights before being shipped to customers.
Not a great situation but the reality unfortunately especially since so many wiring looms and electrical components were traditionally sourced from Ukraine.
It sounds like poor comms from your dealer but its the same all over.

Its a bit more than tbat , i had comfort access, when key removed the seat and steering column retract making it easier with me dodgy knees to get in and out, seems pointless just the seat retracting?

My Taycan was delivered a year ago with the fancy lights, fast charge option and what I think is an upgraded home charger. I didn't order or pay for any of it. Can't complain of course but none of it was ever mentioned.

Very annoying yes, but it's still up to you if you want to cancel the order, which you certainly can if the car is turning into not what you contracted for.

Otherwise you grin and bear it. Your choice.

Not a Porsche, but they removed:
Augmented Navigation
Handsfree access (not the phone)
Premium stereo (forget the brand)
Memory seats
Easypack tailgate
Wireless charging.

They gave me a £250 John Lewis voucher and no discount as these were all options part of a bigger package. smile
I did have the option to cancel the order but as I was a year in, I just left it.

"Grin and bear it" on something costing £150k.

My word. I'd vote with my wallet.

A slightly used one that has all of the bits included?

I think this is going to make buying a used car in 3-5-10 years time a nightmare. Not just Porsches but across the manufacturers. "oh its a 2022 TurboS, that comes with everything" - Except it wont...

" Is that a Range Rover Sport Autobiography, great they're fully loaded..." except some of them wont be... Buyers will need to be properly savvy to make sure that they know what they're actually buying, and test that it all works - Gesture control / touch screens / heated seats etc...
