I'm going to upgrade my rear disks on the cerb (as one is knackered), has anyone put some aftermarket ones on. I've been told by trackcar that the new drilled rears crack easily and are basically crap so going to avoid them.

thanks in advance for any replies - links

i think joo reckons that grooved discs are much better than drilled if you are looking for the extra heat dissipation

Could they be cracked like mine were?

could be, it is knocking the pad slightly you hear at low speed, high speed braking you feel all the way through to the pedal. i just wanted to know if anyone had used aftermarket disks for the rears, without changing the calipers.

I asked this recently and didn't get much of a response, maybe not a lot of people have done this?

I have the same juddering and when I inspected the discs tonight the rears are just starting to show signs of cracking on one or two vanes. Anyone got a decent recommendation to source new rotors?

To add insult to injury the fronts are starting to warp slightly too! they seem to be the 291mm front rotors has anyone upgraded to the standard 322mm ones? can you just space the standard AP calipers with a milled alloy block and longer high tensile bolts?

You can't increase the front discs on teh sp6/4.2 cos the calipers only go up to 304mm disc size .. ap do a 304mm disc but you need alloy bells machined so it's expensive.

best route is to go for the calipers and bells from a 4.5, change the disc for a 330mm item for a good value upgrade. you'd need 17 inch wheels though.

there's no aftermarket rear disc, the problem is that the handbrake "works" on the integral drum. You can only get drilled versions from tvr as far as i know which are ok for road use but useless on track as they crack too easily. I have a pair of rear drilled discs on the shelf if anyone's desperate, but i repeat : road use only for the drilled versions or expect to replace them regularly if you're a track day hero.

be very careful about changing disk sizes. It will change your brake balance, meaning that the front or rear, depending on the weather, may lock which is not a good thing. I would get specialist advice if you are thinking about an upgrade.

I just want replacements, surely www.hispecmotorsport.co.uk/rotors.htm or something like this must be able to provide an alternative.

TrackCar can you mail me the prices for the drilled rears please.
Thanks

Just an update on the rear disks:
I replaced the two rears last night, did quite well for the first time, although not that hard of a job, just a bit awkward by yourself and with fading light, and i ache all over trying to get one of them off.

Anyways good news is it seems to have sorted the problem, blissfull quiet brakes no judder or squeel, plus the hand-brake works better.

thanks for all the replies and help.

Just one thing, does anyone know if the M8 bolts that attach the caliper to the upright assembly need to be tourqued in, if so what setting?
