I'm trying to identify where this photo was taken

I think the car is a 1925 Rolls Royce, reg no GO 4992 (GD would be Glasgow and this is somewhere in the south of England).

The photo probably dates from the late 20s.

Any help appreciated.

The roof and chimneys suggest the arts and crafts vernacular. So Southern England. Possibly Surrey or Sussex...

The dry stone walling suggests Oxfordshire or Gloucestershire to me.

I was looking at the colour of the stone in the houses behind, and Cotswold-ish was my immediate thought.

I think you'd get a result in architecture circles.

My thought too, doesn't quite tally with Surrey. Obviously well connected householder.

As an aside the art master at school in the late '50s had a brace of similar RRs converted to pick-ups. Worth peanuts then!

Is it definitely somewhere in the South of England? If you know that (and why) it might help to locate. The Drystone walls aren't out of place for Scotland, albeit I can't tell what type of stone

It does look like contempery for the time housing. The drystone walling looks Scottish to me with the thin verticle stones on top.
It could just be from somewhere like Bearsden in Glasgow.

The stone and walling both fit the Cotswolds

Or maybe specialist Rolls Royce forums?

Minchinhampton Common near Stroud has houses and walls much like those in the picture.

And some terrific trials hills.
I'd guess south of Endland too.

I suspect that the dry stone walling isn't going to be much of a help here; it's as common in the Lake District as in the Cotswolds.

The house design behind is probably more of a clue, as is the fact that they are rendered walls (which is not typical of The Lakes). It looks like an expensive bit of the world. Some colour in the photo would help, but that may not be possible.

My chum says the right hand house is influenced by Voysey.

Not much to go on.

The windows aren't right for Scotland. Scottish windows are set back into the wall with an external reveal.

You can still see where the second chimney was. The roof tiles are a different colour.

Absolutely stunning geoguesser work there! Well done Sixpackpert.
