The paint code 'should' be writtern in the owners handbook on the same page as all the chassis/engine numbers, usually a TVR code and the 'other manufactures' code.

I was in exactly the same position 3 months back - I phoned the factory, asked for the paintshop, spoke to a nice chap who had a think and remebered where my paint originated. A quick check in the SMART repairers code book produced a very similar code to that in the handbook, so we mixed it up, and it looked right. Worked a treat.

Why won't TVR tell you the origins of your paint? Have you spoken to the local dealer or the factory?

The paint code should be on the Chassis stamp plate under the bonnet. Make a note of the number, ring the factory and ask to speak to "Gerbil" (Don’t ask) in the paint shop. He will sort you out.

Remember seeing something on this... so copied it to a word document... dunno who posted it originally, but this might help!

Paint colour matching

If you are having trouble in finding a matching colour or touch up paint for your TVR here is the answer. Firstly find the BODY CODE number from under the bonnet- mine is P422 1782B. The first numbers are the Paint Type (P422)the second is the ICI paint Code.(1782B) ICI you will now find have ceased in the Automotive paint business but have passed it on to NEXA AUTOCOLOUR.

Go to www.nexaautocolor.com (24hours a day 7 days a week)
1. Go into the TECHNICAL section on the screen
2. Go into COLOUR ON THE NET and follow the instructions.

You will then finish up with the Colour, the TVR ref, and a Formulation report for say Halfords to mix you up whatever quantity you want OR ring them on 01449 771771 and within a minute a very helpful lady will give you the Colour and fax you a Formulation sheet.(mine finished up as Metallic Misty Blue)

Hatchin is dead right - Gerbil may swear alot but he knows his Ferk1n stuff (his words I believe).

All colours come from someone else unless this man has mixed it up himself

Don't bother with Chipsaway. They are unable to match the colours for TVR. So far I have wasted two Monday mornings with them.

That's funny, there was one of those guys at Duxford demo'ing the chips away process on a Tiv.

I didn't stand around to watch the results mind.

Podie's totally right - you need BOTH sets of numbers for it to work - some people troll off with the first set only & imagine their surprise...the ICI second bit is crucial!! (Had my back end resprayed - the car that is) cheers, Tant

The factory is on holiday this week and I wouldn't bother next week as it will be mayhem at the factory.

I would look in the handbook for the colour, mine (for the GV2000) is on the front page where the VIN number etc is.
