What is the cause of this f@*#&!n creaking

My partner's Infiniti QX70 has developed a creaking from the nearside suspension that is driving me up the wall.

It creaks over bumps at slow speeds, but also when the steering wheel is turned in either direction when stationary. I've greased everything but to no avail so I'm assuming something needs replacing.

Any ideas?

The symptoms suggest something in the suspension or steering, such as the strut top bearing. Since you can reproduce the sound when stationary, can't you just stand next to the car and track it down by ear?

I can't easily identify the noise, I need to get it on ramps this weekend and have a better look.

When I had a quick listen this morning as my partner drove off, it looked to be coming from the rubber boot at the end of the steering rack.
