Good Morning,

I’ve had issues with my Lucas wiper motor recently on a 97 Chim. Apologies for the lack of tech knowledge beforehand.

1) When I bought the car, the wipers were parked on the drivers side. After stripping the motor, re-lubing etc, I couldn’t figure out how to change this to park on the passenger side.

2) I bought new wipers, which are were from race tech, which were larger than what was already on the car. After a couple of months, my wiper motor has packed in, and I believe it has burnt out.

My question is one, even though it’s a Lucas wiper motor, could this have been replaced with the 14W unit, hence it not being man enough for the wipers. And two, is anybody on here still refurbishing them? I know Adrian used to do this, but from memory I believe he has stopped? I know Powers do a rebuild, but wanted to ask here first.

Tvr parts sell an upgraded motor which really is excellent but it’s now silly money, it’s the best upgrade you will do though.
I believe the guy you mention can still be contacted via Facebook for the repairs so maybe explore this avenue first.

Thank you for your replies. The upgraded motor I have looked into as a last resort, but it won’t solve my issue of the wipers parking on the wrong side.

I’ll take a look at the rewinding too, but the same issue applies as above.

As said your best bet is to contact Adrian Venn on Facebook, he is the expert on TVR wiper motors. he gave me excellent advice just recently.
