Lacking appropriate decision making skills and expertise myself, it seems I must take my dilemma to the PH massive.
Well, I was going to buy a c63 cab - I was so certain that I would that when I saw a ‘c63’ number plate at auction I bought it. It is c63 followed by my initials.
However, I then ended Up buying a 911 instead.
If you were in my position would you put the c63 XXX plate on the Porsche?
As a car nut and chronic pedant I am pretty sure if I saw it on someone else’s car I couldn’t help pointing out to the wife how strange it looked. ( to get a response of ‘ you are the only person who would notice that ‘). Am I overthinking things ? It is still easier to remember than the standard number plate which is the main reason I buy them as I can never remember the plate when I get to the parking meter otherwise. .
I don’t want to sell the c63 plate in case I get a c63 in the future.

Nothing to add other than it’s amusing when you see what car someone used to have based on exactly this, like they’ve kept the S4 or M2 XXX plate and put it on their family wagon.

I disagree. I have no idea why some get so riled about numberplates, but having the option to personalise them means we can at least have some fun with something otherwise boring. As long as they are legal just get owner it.

I like plates that match the car, shows that it is more likely to be enthusiast owned. For that reason I'd probably not put a C63 plate on a 911. But it doesn't really matter.

I bought this and the plate came with it. Yes some people think the plate is wrong, mainly those who understand what v8 means and are higher on the OCD scale. I'm not too bothered. I've got more important things to worry about like do I fit in the car for a start.

The initials are the personal bit not the C63 (which most people won't have any remote idea this is in reference to a car anyways)

Do it, although expected some people to ask you about C63 ownership prior to Porsche.

In reality most normal fokes don't know what a C63 is.

Trolling comment above and totally irrelevant to the ask of the OP.

I have an X5 plate (X5TUU) amongst a number of other private plates thats never been on an X5. When it was on a Q7 is caused the most outrage for some unbeknown reason (like it has anything remotely to do with other people), but curiously now I live in a much nicer area I've not had a single comment about it. I think its just something that ruddy-faced frequenters of flat roofed working mens clubs get annoyed at.

Use it, your next car might still be a C63 and meanwhile it still has your initials.

I’ll just say that the plate came with the car and it is purely a coincidence

Actually someone who might be on an even higher level of car-wareness will know that the closely related 996 is often LS-swapped, so may think you actually have something under the "hood" that deserves great respect wink - not least for its novelty and engineering.

I quite like wondering about wrong plates on cars whenever I see one...

M5 xxx on say a 420d BMW- "wonder if he's down sized or if he's working towards his dream car" sort of thing.

I was doing g a search for my initials as I find them easier to remember than long car numbers plates when I saw the c63 one. Kind of a coincidence really.

I wouldn't even question a C63 plate on a Porsche.

I would think it's a bit tacky on a Mercedes though.

The C63 part of the registration suggests an element of desperation for others to be aware that the car is a C63.
It's a bit like those that stick AMG badges on every panel.
Was the car bought because of its status rather than abilities?
Tell us you didn't read the whole original post, without telling us you didn't read the whole original post.

To the OP, you could always leave it on retention it costs peanuts in the grand scheme of things, and get a 911 number.

One of our neighbours has a Tesla with the registration V7 XXX. I have never been quite sure which car he might previously have owned. Maybe a V8 with a misfire.
