V8 Vantage locking problems

We have discovered some odd door locking behaviour on our 2006 V8V that I have not heard of before. If both the passenger and drivers doors are opened and then closed and then the car is locked using the fob, both doors lock fine. If you then unlock the car, only open the drivers door and them lock the car again using the fob, only the drivers door will lock. The passengers door can be opened even though the car has been locked. The same is true in reverse i.e. lock and then unlock the car, only open the passenger door, lock the car and only the passenger door will lock.
The car has just been serviced by a main dealer who have a good reputation on here, and their view was that both door latches need replacing, but that doesn't make sense to me given that they do work. It seems to me more of a programming type fault but the dealer says not. Anybody else experienced this or have any thoughts on what is causing this?

It’s a common fault, but hasn’t been discussed much recently, if you search back in this forum there will be some good threads from 3-4 years discussing it.
As much as it feels like a programming/software fault, it isn’t really and replacing the door lock modules is the (unfortunately) expensive solution.
I owned a 2008 car that suffered from it and I never got round to replacing the locking modules but would use the key to make sure the doors were locked.

Daft question. What happens if you unlock the car, open one door, close the door, then lock the car on the fob twice (i.e. press the lock button twice, but without opening any door or pressing the "unlock" button)? Is the car then fully locked, or is it still that only the door you opened is locked?
Also, you said your dealer said you needed to replace the door latches. I would think, from all of the known problems with the early cars and as olv says, it's more likely to be the door modules that need replacing, not the latches. The door modules are the ECUs that control the components in the doors (windows, mirrors, latches etc); one per door. They need to be replaced as a pair for the later type.

It was the dealers report that mentioned door latches rather than modules. Perhaps if they had said it was the modules that needed replacing I might have believed them.Also, you said your dealer said you needed to replace the door latches. With regard to your 'daft' question I have no idea, but will try it next time the car comes out.

Thanks for the link, but if I am honest I am still not sure whether it is likely to be the latches or the modules. Paying the best part of £1000 to have the latches changed is bad enough, but then to find that wasn't the fault at all would not be in the least bit amusing. Guess I will have to live with the problem for the time being.
