Hi I was caught in January 2022 in Crook of Devon Drum near Kinross Scotland doing 48 MPH as entering a 30mph zone bu two over zealous Traffic cops.
I was caught by Traffic using the Unipar 700 Laser gun. This device requires calibrated yearly and recorded my speed 509metres away or over a third of a mile.
This did not sit right with me and felt there was something wrong with how they recorded my speed. I asked them where they had recorded me and they could not answer me. It did not sit right and then started to research this measuring device and recorded the cops for my own benefit for later use

The Unipar 700 can record your speed over 600m (700) away and takes 0.5 seconds to hit your vehicle (speed of light) and return to gun so 1400m total and very accurate.

However there is standard protocol that all Cops should follow to avoid interference with this device .

I contested this and went to court instructing a lawyer and got help from a friend who prepared my case with lawyer and had case dismissed and watched a traffic officer stand up in court and tell lies yes lie under oath.

Please remember the police are not above the law and must abide by procedures and rules.

If anyone has been recently caught then love to hear from them

You'd have to be 93,000 miles away.

^^^^ This. I'm surprised his dodgy maths actually resulted in a win.

Presumably that’s the acquisition time, the time to get a reading. Not the time it takes to get one of however many hundred (thousand?) sample measurements.

There is either a lot more to the story or simply file under things that didn't happen.

OP says he was caught at 48, not that he was doing 48.

Takes pretty good eyesight to form a prior opinion and confirm speed at 500 metres.

Other than it is his first post he also doesn't list the technicality he used other than to say, they have to follow a procedure.

He suggested that the officer lied under oath but not what about, so leaves more questions than answers. If its scotland makes it even harder to believe as if police have got op for allege 48 in 30 can't imagine a judge being keen on going against the police.

Be interesting if the op could shed more light

Is a prior opinion required in Scotland?

There is some fuds in this group TBH and quick to jump to conclusions and there will be some cops on this page as well and they may learn a thing or two of what they can get away with or not and not above the law which is why I was going to elaborate for all.

Firstly I'm a petrol head and a Mechanical Engineer with NDT where I specialised for Offshore , Marine and Nuclear Industry.

I got ticketed as I went from a 60MPH zone in to 40MPH zone into 30MPH .

We calculated that Officers were recording my vehicle in the 40 zone.

I did some research on the Unipar 700 Laser devise and spoke with current officers to understand its capabilities.

I also acquired the the manuals and memos of how they are expected to operate such within the Scottish Police force.

For the fud that mentioned speed of light, it takes the Unipar under .5 second to register your speed through a series of Algorithms and software to provide a speed on the gun from Officer once they release the trigger so the .5seconds is when they release the feckin trigger.

I was in the dock for 4 and half hours and case was dismissed .

Firstly the officers operating the device must switch their radios into TXI mode (transmit Inhibit ) and also their police car.

The TXI Inhibit mode is in the police memos also available under the freedom of information act, and there to avoid what then happened in court...

The TXI goes back control centre and recorded for future records should you need to go to court.

When you have requested the TXI record and turn up to court to find that only one officer has switched theirs off and.... they say under oath that Unipar says and unipar says this and that and when you cross examine using the correct way of operating and then cops realising they have fecked up then saying .., wait for it....... our police 67 plate X5 traffic car did not have a radio fitted to it that day then ... you can go to town
