Guys

Spotted this Seiko homage to a YM for not much money, and thought it looked good as I quite like the rose gold and black themed watches and don't have one in my collection. I have a small 3 watch collection (IWC Big Pilots, Panerai and Omega PO XL) which all wear big but this 40mm feels a little lost on the wrist.

I can't work out whether I like it or whether it's naff or not!

Help me decide!

Cheers

I like it. Assume it's relatively inexpensive being a Seiko rather than a GS, so I say go for it.

i have one I built earlier this year. However, I tried to step away from the YM look as much as possible. Different style dial and no Cyclops.

Regarding size, the others you have are huge.... It's all relative.... Spend some time wearing a smaller watch and it becomes normal then the other 3 will seem huge!

My modded Seiko YM. Saved me 20k!

It’s slightly different with a black case, gold & black markers & no minute markers, no cyclops.

I love it.

Seiko is the best watch manufacturer in the world so it's a no-brainer to add one to your collection.

They are not Seiko watches.

They are an unbranded watch, made using fake Rolex cases/bracelets/bezels/hands etc. The dial isn't made by Seiko either, it is an aftermarket Rolex copy with Seiko branding and text applied. Mostly they don't even have a Seiko movement inside them, usually just a Chinese clone automatic, but sometimes they do have an NH35 or similar.

Don't take this the wrong way, I have no issue with them at all, and think they are quite fun, but let's not pretend they are a Seiko. They have never been anywhere near a Seiko factory.

Some are more mix and match, and some do have Seiko hands, or a genuine Seiko dial, but most are just made with aftermarket/clone parts.

(I want to stress I have no issue with these watches and people should buy what they like. I say this as I got moaned at in another thread for pointing out that these were not a Seiko watch)

From my understanding from the previous owner who put it together, the dial is genuine, the movement is indeed an nh35, and the case, bezel and strap are all aftermarket. Like you said, it looks like a nice, fun design. My other watches are all £5k to 10k per item, so Im under no illusions this is a cheaper watch and you get what you pay for.

Cheers

The only thing genuine is the Seiko movement.... If one was used. Nothing else comes from the Seiko parts list. I know, I've spent £hundreds on putting together these watches!

As far as I can see, and I am absolutely more than happy to be wrong, there has never been a Seiko Marinemaster dial produced with those Rolex style markers on it. So I think the dial is aftermarket as well. They are available in any homage style you like, probably one of these from Ali Express:

I've seen quite a few of these Seiko/Rolex mashups now and as I say, I think they are fun.

Good knowledge, LM. I didn't know fake Seikos were even a thing! Funny old world.

They even make fake Casio F-91W watches, and that’s what, a £15 item?

The Seiko ‘modding’ scene is absolutely huge and really quite a lot of fun. There’s so much available aftermarket. I put a sapphire crystal and a Strapcode bracelet on my Samurai and turned it into a mini-Marinemaster for about £100:

The Yachtmaster-style mod seems to be a popular choice.

I wanted to put those style factory hands on my build but they are too long and the hour arrow hand catches the applied hour marks on the dial. frown

I have one in a drawer somewhere - it looked too small for me. Glad I have it as I'm a bit of a magpie with watches, but it was, as you say, a bit lost on the wrist.

I have one which is very well put together.

I am under no illusion that it’s a Rolex or a Seiko (although it has a genuine Seiko movement) but it just looks good.

Currently on the sale pile only because I don’t wear it as much as I should.

Enjoy them for what they are smile
