I live in the proposed ULEZ zone and drive a Euro 4 diesel that needs to go soon. I only want to spend around £5K on it's replacement, it needs to be petrol, and I would prefer something smaller and easy to park due to permit parking where I live.

The car I have the best ever memories of is my old fiat Uno Turbo, I used to love the small engine with a turbo feel. I would love to go back to something similar, and it looks like the turbo engine in the Mito is related to the engine that was fitted to the Uno Turbo?

Anyone own one of these and what are they like to drive and what is the build quality like? I have read the suspension is on the firm side, is this going to annoy middle aged me, when 23 year old me didn't notice it with the Uno?

Probably a decent shout. I'm sure the ZXR NIN guy will chip in soon, as I think he has experience with Mitos, or he bought a lower engine version for his son he was mentioning to me.

I might end up with one of these myself as a second car after not driving really for three years and maybe looking for something not too expensive. I don't think the suspension is meant to be too hard, as a friend of mine from high school's dad had one and gave me a lift back home and I didn't have any complaints about the ride at the time. The main thing I remember was the cool seatbelt lights by the rear view mirror biggrin

It's interesting how diesel has become so disliked again. I never really liked it myself because of the smog and my parents having old memories, and it sounding a bit like farm vehicles, but in the early to mid 2010s it was so popular right, like most people commuting or daily driving had a diesel, and now it's going back the other way? biggrin

I did have a 155hp 1.4 turbo. It is little bit meh. Reliability was ok, but gearbox can cause you problems. Not that expensive to fix.

It is firm and drive modes are more miss than hit. For example in normal mode steering was ok but gas pedal sloppy and dynamic mode steering was too fast but gas pedal was good. I dont know. I didn't like that car. Which sucks because i wanted to like it. Older Yaris t-sport was better, so there is that.

As i said earlier, little bit meh.

I had one, the MA135 Veloce, I think it was on 17’’ rims.

Was damn hard riding in 2010, but maybe everything is that hard these days.

Broke a spring out of warranty, was £30 from ECP, local garage done it in 90 mins, the extra time as the wiper arm was seized to the spindle.

Zero drivetrain issues in 5 years, optional leather was robust too.

I had a Veloce 140. Reliable and nice enough to drive I'm dynamic mode.

Providing you put the correct oil in and change cambelt these engines don't have meltdown issues like VAG products etc.

The Mito is a very good option for a 5k car & you'll actually get a nice Cloverleaf/QV for your budget & you'll have some left to update the infotainment or for cambelt changes etc.

Cloverleaf:

QV:

Veloce 155:

Or the Giulietta (which is a better overall car imo) Veloce 170:

Surprisingly you can get a Cloverleaf 240 for 5K:

They get a lot of bad press but you can land a Corsa VXR Nurburgring for 5k & they're a true old (they're also pretty decent) school hot hatch & it may be the type of car you're looking for:

1.6T Astra GTC SRI 180, these are a more rounded (less focused/detuned) car than the Corsa above & some people don't like the longer gearing as it takes away from the performance but it makes them a more relaxing daily:

If you want a bit of Uno turbo excitement then I'd say the Corsa may well be the car.

Corsa VXRs are another one of those cars I've not considered too much, only because I know two YouTubers J3ESE and Man Like Wezzo who owned Corsa and Astra VXRs respectively, and both of them I think have had to part with them due to reliability issues and them apparently being prone to piston issues or something unless you build the engine, but then again, maybe that's just in tuned circumstances and they're fine stock?

Being tuned doesn't help early Corsa VXR's had the issue but was less of an issue on later cars.

I absolutely loved mine, was 100 percent reliable and I thought it rode pretty well compared to its peers. I like the styling too, think it has stood the test of time well. Get one with lots of history and all the consumables that need replacing all done.
