Had exactly same experience with them on the bumper of my C4S when i had it.
They only came to a stone chip, ended up cocking it up, then having to cover a 9" square area, and had to come back twice, as it looked W**k !!
I still was not happy with it, but couldn't tolerate them any longer, the painted area then deteriorated over the next few weeks !!!
I will never use them again !!!
Use an OPC's recomended paint shop, that's what i'm gonna do for a bumper respray on my GT3, and Porsche will still warranty it even if you deal direct with them, or so i was told by my OPC.

The "Chips Away" concept is to supply a temporary repair, it does not use the same quality of surface prep, nor paint, laquers etc that a bona-fide paintshop does.
The repairs will deteriorate quickly. Avoid these type of repairs if you intend keeping the car. They are meant as short term temporary repairs only.

Just collected my wifes BMW from Chipsaway yesterday, where they repaired two dents/scratches and large deep gouge in the paintwork. I looked at it very closely in sunlight and was genuinely not able to detect where the original problems were. As said it's guaranteed for 2 years.
If I was after a concours car or dealing with a very valuable car then sure a full OPC job will be better, but I was very very impressed.
The repair on the main paintwork was done with a two-pack paint and then lacquered, both heat-dried, which sounds very similar to the job a dealer would do. The bumper repairs were only a one pack-paint, so less good one could argue, but in a less sensitive area. Time will tell I guess. The savings as against having a full dealer spray job were large.
I am having them do a bumper crack/scrape on my Alpina next week. Will see what they do for that but it's £200+ for them to do plastic repair and local spray vs BMW dealer wanting £1500+, to supply, fit and paint a full Alpina front bumper..........which on a 105,000 mile car makes a lot more sense.

In all the years we`ve sold Porsches I`ve never been happy with "localised" paint repairing methods. This also extends to alloy wheels repaired "on site". You need to paint whole panels and do the job properly. Alloys wheels need to be painted complete rather than have a bit of dry paint dusted on a wheel with the tyre pulled back.

All Chipsaway repairs come with a 2 year guarantee and if you're not happy you should say so and get your local guy to sort it out (I know it's too late for you Glenn 
) If you are still not happy then call ChipsAway head office and complain
I am a new franchisee and we use the same paint system and paints that a bodyshop will use, and our product should last the test of time when applied properly.
I'm honestly not trying to do a bit of Promo but we have hired one of the Pit Garages at Brands Hatch and will be doing demonstrations all weekend. If you are at all concerned, come and have a look and satisfy yourself of the quality

Some good some bad, one guy did some work on the MINI but wouldnt touch the Porsche as he didnt think he would get a good enough match with the particular colour. Some are easier to match than others.
He did a localised repair on the wheel and 2 years later I still cant find where the repair is.
I like someone like that so I will keep his number honesty above bravery and all that

Just read your storey, but I can't understand it. Why was the paint shop just using paint codes to get the match. I was under the impression that good shops had a spectral scanner thingy so that they can formulate an exact match to whatever is on the car. Is this not the case?
Deffo echo Vic's comment - Paintechnique's repairs are most definitely NOT temporary, since I haven't used Chipsaway, I can't comment on whether theirs really are...

I really thought that was the old fashioned way. If you want paint for your house, they have scanners in DoItAll etc so they can mix it on site. Hence people can turn up with random objects and say 'I want this colour'.

The paint shop had a rep from the paint manufacturer to do exactly that. After spraying the bumper in the nearest off the shelf with matching problems a little gadget was brought along to analize the paint.
The results were conclusive....they had used an exact match. The real problem was the hard where the bumper meets the wings etc. The best way to ensure a match is to blend the colour into the sings, which they did, not just spray a bumper and stick it on the car.
The car is now back as new and looks fantastic.
Would I use any Chips away type company again?
Easy answer....NO.

Yes, but they don't have a wall in that colour that they have to match it to do they
