AIX, Samba + Windows
Discussion
Dunno if anyopne has any experience in this, but I've installed Samba on my AIX box, created the shares, user access levels etc etc but I cannot browse the shares I've created in windows explorer ?
Do I have to add the AIX box to the AD list on my Domain to be able to see the shares, or should I just be able to view them (Assuming that my hostname/username/IP addr) are all correct ?

You may have to search for the shares from the 'doze box. There Windows boxen I've had the misfortune to have to fight with never seemed able to nicely play with new arrivals on networks - whether Linux- or MS-based.
I'm sure that wasn't much help, but maybe the search thingy will do the trick for you. here's hoping!
BTW, smbclient (comes with samba) should help you determine if the problem is your AIX box or otherwise.

I'd check things like workgroup, hosts allow, interfaces etc. in your smb.conf. maybe point the samba box's DNS at an AD server? I'm sure you don't *have* to actually join the AD if you don't want to.
Try start/run servernamesharename... If your're getting access denied, use 'useradd' and 'smbpasswd' to sort some accounts out...

Forum has done no favours with the slashes... Try this:
\\servername\sharename
Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
