I'd like to get one of these for a bit of fun at Christmas and new Year but with so many options I don't know what to do.

Easiest way seems to be to use Spotify to provide the lyrics, that way we can pick almost any song. After that we need to connect it to a mic and speaker. I think the laptop (which we'll run Spotify on) should be connected to the speaker.

It's a bit of fun that won't get used much so don't want/need to spend too much

Is that the best option or should I consider something else?

Lol, predictable. It's just a bit of fun to save us sitting around eating and drinking all day and evening.

I've seen YT but still need the MIC I think

But it will only be one person at a time (3 minutes?) who won't be sat around eating and drinking!

Yes but others will be there to take the piss hehe

We've tried board games and card games but they often quieten everything down as people concentrate on them.

You can download karaoke tracks direct to your computer, laptop, tablet etc. If possible, try and get some soaftware that allows you to amend the key of the music to suit your voice. The problem with You Tube based karaoke is that the song will be stuck in a fixed key - which means that it may be too high or low to suit your voice.

You shouldn't really need a mic in a domestic setting - unless you want to annoy the neighbours or drown out The King's Speech.

Lol, a key for singing?! It'll all be terrible once we're a bit pissed hehe

I looked at the Amazon Roxi which is pretty cheap on FB marketplace as that was mentioned on an older Karaoke thread.

It depends on whther you want to do it properly or just lark about I suppose. I like singing so I try to stick to songs I know I can sing. I don't want to wreck my vocal chords or damage other peoples' eardrums. It's only recently I did some research into Key changeable tracks and they are a real Godsend. Songs I wouldn't have dared tackle before I can now handle.

If you have a recent iphone and an apple music subscription, they just released the 'sing' feature where you can automatically turn down the vocals on any of the tracks on apple music. Just hit the lyrics button and theres a volume slider there to lower the voice channel. No bouncy lyrics balls on the lyrics though.

Just for fun.

Did you learn to sing yourself or get assistance?

Can't think of a worse way of spending my time than karaoke. If everyone involved likes it then fair enough, but If I was invited to someones house where they were having karaoke I would decline, or fake illness on the day, or I'd wear a scarf and talk in a funny voice claiming id had a recent tracheostomy.

But that's just me, and Im boring.
