We are new to EV ownership (MY LR) and planning a road trip down to the Alps just after new year.

What is the best route planning website or app to plot charging station stop offs?

Thanks

I think the default is to recommend the paid for version of A Better Route Planner.

https://abetterrouteplanner.com/

The Model Y should have google maps too and able to redirect you to chargers etc.

If you just want to do HL route planning to get an idea of how long it will take, no need to go premium with ABRP. Even though I have it connected to the car, I find in reality that I prefer to have me dictating stops and not an app so I have never used ABRP on the go. I’m sure the Tesla system will work the best when on the move anyhow.

I drove to Annecy in my Model 3 in August. Just put the destination in the sat nav and drive, but try and stop at Beaune Nord for a top up as there are 28 x 350kW charge points in a row. It's right next to a huge Charles LeClerc supermarket and a nice italian restaurant.

For additional charging, it may be worth getting a ChargePoint card (all points are on the app), but in reality the Tesla SuCs are plentiful. There is a large one at Sallanches just short of Chamonix if you're going that way.

I didn't bother with ABRP, it's more useful info though.

I thought the Tesla sat nav did all that route planning/charging stuff for you?

It does (as the Tesla website does also). I just wasn’t sure if this was the best tool as we’d like to pre-plan an overnight stop around Dijon so we aren’t under pressure to optimise charging/travel in single day (this is our first EV road trip).

Good to know about the Beaune SuC array, along with the ones near Chamonix (our destination).

Another recommendation for a better route plannner from me.

I just use the free version and used to use it a lot more in the beginning than now, after about 27,000 miles in my Model 3.

But it's a good way to give you a rough idea of where you will be stopping on unfamiliar long trips.

With a Tesla, just use the in-built nav. It will sort it all out for you, Just went to Ghent last weekend from Derbyshire in my M3P. It was easy.

And, importantly, you need to use the in-built nav when going to a supercharger as it will automatically pre-condition the battery for faster charging.
