This used to be a Christmas staple of all the supermarkets, but haven't noticed it in the shops in years but was reminded of it today and wanted to get one for my mother, however googling doesnt seem any shops, let alone supermarkets sell the it.

Any ideas of where i can source one? (im not a baker before anyone suggest that...!.

They were made by McVities and withdrawn in the mid 80s. Tesco bought them back last year under their own brand but they don’t appear to be doing them this year.

too young to remember a mcvities version! but the supermarkets all used to them until about 5 years back or so, as the old dear was quite fussy over which ones she liked (although were probably all made by the same people with just different fruit shapes on top...), can't recall which was favoured, but sure there was one that had pink and yellow icing 'splodges' around the chocolate edge that seemed to be prevalent in the house, but now can't seem to get for love or money frown

this used to be a big thing with the fam, comparisons on who made the best cake etc. The preferred ones were tesco and sainsburys if i recall. But then they suddenly became hard to get, the chocolate layer became worse quality and thinner too.

We bought the Sainsburys one last year and I thought it was good. We have an M&S one on order from Ocado this year. It only has one review on their website which is only one star so will have to see how good or bad it is.

Yep. Is well decent. 8/10. Thick chocolate. Not icing.
Moist madeira. And a thin layer of chocolate at the bottom which is new twist. Go for it!
