Stolen scooter - help
Discussion
My Vespa was taken on Monday night, tracking company know where it is - appears to be in a small lock up garage / shed. I can’t get in to it.
So I log on-line a report to the Met Police and basically that’s all I can do; they won’t commit to going to look for it or even meeting me there.
The longer they delay trying to get it back, the higher the chance it’ll be trashed.
How can I get them to go and poke around the garage for me? The Trakking company have tried, but we can’t get anywhere. It’s so frustrating to know where it is, yet can’t do anything about it.
Does anyone have any ideas or ways I could get this sped up? I wondered about calling my insurers but didn’t think that’d help in the end.

Is there an actual local police station by any chance? If so, go in there and see who you can talk to. Be ready for a whole world of pain though as I have found in the past including an absolute tosser of a plod who I ended up reporting for his very poor behaviour. By that was by the by, by persevering, I actually got some action (in that case around a driver who rear ended me, wasn't insured and did a runner).

There’s no local station, now closed down.
I could try knocking on doors, but it’s behind a small block of flats so who knows - but I’ve just seen there’s an office nearby with CCTV so I might go and ask them.
It’s so tempting to go and steal it back; it’s the easiest plan but you know I’ll get done for breaking and entering or something and I’ll end up paying compensation to the scrotes that pinched it in the first place!
I’m speaking to the tracking company again; see if they’re getting more luck.
I also found an email address for a local constable so I’ll try that; you never know.
I thought the police would jump at a chance of an ‘easy win’ so would come right over!

Might be some useful info on this thread from a few months ago:

Rely on the police and you'll never get it back. It took them 12 hours to come and pick up some keys that had been taken away from a guy who couldn't walk but went to drive home in his car. We relieved him of his keys and called the police. After waiting for 2 hours in the freezing cold on Christmas Eve, we went home and the police turned up on Christmas day to take his keys back and tell us there's nothing they can do now.
The only chance you've got of getting that back quickly is a bunch of friends and either destructive entry to the shed or call a locksmith and pay the fee. They usually don't ask questions since they're getting paid, and you'll be in. Obviously, this isn't legal. Your insurer will probably take forever doing paperwork and time is somewhat of the essence. Unless you can flag down a passing constable while you're stood near the unit, I reckon you've got next to no hope with them, unfortunately.

Im a bike owner too and id geel physically sick if my bike was stolen and it was located but i was thwarted from getting it back. Is the tracker accurate I.e. exact lock up?
Twitter, post on their Facebook page, keep calling, create complaint(s).
You are a victim of crime. This is an opportunity to solve crime and possibility of a lead to the offenders or someone handling stolen property.
Don't feel put off. Sadly alot of crime gets triaged at source and wrongly closed.
Don't break open the lock up and attempt to get it back yourself- it's too much risk.

Thanks for all the replies.
It's in a single garage, and the trackking company gave a What3Words address and it all added up. They also said the GPS signal was weaker indicating it's in the garage. I cannot work out how to get in to the garage; the area is okay (Chiswick) - but I'm not the kind of person to just go wondering in for a look.
I'm going to hassle them via Twitter etc. to see if that gets any traction. I've emailed the local constables. Trakking company still say they've heard nothing.
I can honestly see this just fizzing out and then I have to claim, and like one of the other posters I'll get it back in a years time all beaten up!
Grrr!
