OK, 2023 is new car time, thought I'd canvass the Pistonheads collective. A flavour of past stuff:Lotus Elan, BMW2002tii, BMWM5, Jaguar XJR, Mitsubishi EVO VI, Caterham R400 and R500. Bikes:Fireblade, Speed Triple, ZX6RR, 1098S.
I currently have a deposit down on the 2023 Civic Type R or should I get something like a big BM/Merc?

Well with such epically clear requirements including budget and function, I would strongly suggest a Daihatsu YRV.

stick with what you've got on order

if you don't like it you'll probably be able to make a profit flipping it on

For everyday use, or as a toy?

I've done the separate toy bit and feel I would struggle to beat a blat with the R500 or 1098S so that ship's sailed. So, I'd like it to handle both which is why the deposit sits on the Type R which excites me more than the rival offerings from, say, VW/Audi/BMW etc. That leaves me with a less focused fast saloon similar to stuff I've had before (M5, XJR) or mid range e.g. M3/4, budget isn't the overriding issue, I'm happy that £50K'ish should sort me out. A 911 (yes, £50K++) would give me a quick car but track days aren't key now, in any event the Type R would suffice. One last thing.......the EVO was fab, absolutely loved it but the ride would often necessitate a couple of Paracetamol....the Type R on the right setting might alleviate that.

This.

Probably be a great car.

Though £50K on a hatchback is hard to stomach.

M4 CS can probably be had for £50K if you wanted something more special.

Toyota GR86 maybe.

Save yourself £20K and get an FK8.

As above stick with the Type R, or flip it if it's not for you.
