Boris Becker released from prison ( after 8 Months of a 30 Month sentence)
If he was a British, he would not normally be released until halfway through his sentence.

We save money by deporting him, but why does he then not spend the rest of his sentence in a German prison?
Is he treated differently because he is not British, or is it because he has money (even if he is allegedly bankrupt)?

I'm guessing that for lots of people deporting criminals is more important than the sentence they serve.

Incorrect. As a general rule, prisoners convicted of non-violent offences will be eligible for Home Detention Curfew and released after one-quarter of the sentence. The remainder is spent on licence. One-quarter of 30m is 7.5m.

Becker would have been released as a foreign national under the Early Removal Scheme. He would have an Early Removal Scheme Eligibility Date given to him and in general this would be around 270 days (although this can vary with length of sentence). There is the incentive to leave the UK rather than serving until Parole or HDC and in some cases cash incentives are given.

As he is a German national, and Germany is a safe country (compared to say Somalia), there is no point in him appealing against his deportation, that many foreign nationals do.
