Private number plate question

Evening,

Thinking of buying a private plate and the VAT part is confusing me.

Some plates have vat added and some don’t. It’s the same across all the sites.

Are plates over a certain age exempt?

No. The sellers are either showing it separately or including it in their listing.

VAT is payable on registration numbers owned by companies that are registered for VAT, or any client that is VAT registered and is selling via a broker website. If the seller is not VAT registered, then there would not be VAT on it.
