Help me choose a car

Looking for your help in choosing a boring, reliable car

- Motorway commute to work 2 to 3 days per week (90miles roundtrip) Estimated annual mileage 15k max
- Needs to be automatic
- Not diesel ( concerned about ULEZ)
- Good boot space (previously had octavia estate - something similar)
-Body type: not fussed
- Low running costs
- Reliable. Thinking couple year old, low mileage. as have been burned before with cars a few yrs old
- Budget: 2 year lease for less than £9k. Or Cash upto £20k

2020/2021 KIA Ceed/Proceed will have many of its 7 year warranty left. Not sure how hard the 1.5T engine needs working though.

Mazda3 or Mazda6 another option-larger engine and mild hybrid though you'll not have much of the 3yr warranty left.

You're under no obligation to spend £20k on one. The 120 PS version is available for much less.

I have to say you'll be fine with a Euro6 diesel but if you want a petrol then I agree with the above a Kia PreCeed Estate is a good call:

Is there not any ULEZ upcoming rules which will bring the axe down on Euro6 diesels? Diesel prices definitely seem to have softened and it could be argued that any saving on fuel at present (now prices are settling at the pumps) would be lost through future depreciation as diesel becomes increasingly unpopular among car buyers.

There are no changes for Euro6 diesels coming the next planned change is for a Euro5 minimum on petrols, the difference in fuel (20p where I am) is because our diesel is imported.

So no one knows when the disparity will get back to around 3p per litre again.

Diesel cars are still popular used buys but due to BiK changes & public perception there are less for sale.

I'm in agreement with the Kia Ceed Sportswagon. They seem to be the only thing to give the Octavia estate a run for it's money in terms of boot space for the same cost and age

The the Kia is a better bet than the i30 (although they're the same chassis) you don't get as nice a spec i30.

The Sportage is a decent SUV but there are other good options.

thats when i saw brand new hyundai i30 auto estate for under £23k
1.0 T-GDi MHEV SE Connect Tourer

Spec doesn't look as nice as ceed 3 but wonder if the hybrid makes it more attractive for resale?
Cheapest 2022 ceed 3 petrol sportswagon auto is £22k so thought maybe worth extra grand for brand new.

Here's the thing the 1.0T unit is adequate but as you said it's a lower spec & Hyundai's only get a 5 year warranty, something like this Kia ProCeed GT will have the same amount of warranty but be better spec with more power too:

Current thinking is taking the hit on spec if I can get brand new at less cost than used.
Feels bad spending a lot on a boring small car with big depreciation; but seems least worst option.
