Boxster remote stopped working

Damn, the remote has packed up in my Boxster. Any ideas how to get it going again? I'm sure any 996 tricks will apply here.
It's not the five day disable. (How long does it take Boxster owners to learn about this?..... First time they leave it more that five days I guess ;))
It's not the battery as I've replaced it as a precaution. It was working fine on Monday when I locked the car with it, but when I went to open it tonight, nothing. The red LED flashes, but the car just ignores it.
Does it need synching up to the car after a remote battery change? There is nothing in the manual, but my Primera needs to have the key turned in a special sequence to reactivate it.
I'm both :irked: and :grumpy:

That would be very useful.... I doubt anything comes cheap!
I think the remote is working, as the LED flashes so the output stage should be working.... I may take the battery off the car at the weekend to reset everything back to factory, but I'm not optimistic.
Ah well, it's only money

Hi there - was wondering what the outcome was here as i have exactly the same problem. 1st key stopped working - red light flashes etc but no response from car. 2nd key fine. Changed battery in 1st one but still doesn't work. This is on a 1999 996 - does it need "syncing" - on my old mazda mx5 this simply involved pressing the button in a specific way - could it be that simple?
TIA
