How many miles ?

Please be gentle with me as I post this in genuine puzlement. In recent years I have noticed that people advertising vehicles, particularly when over 10 years old simply cannot manage to get the mileage right generally getting about 10% of the actual miles.
As an example I have just seen an advert for a 35,000 mile Van which, being 13 years old I had no doubt was actually 350000 miles and so the MOT history tells me it is.
I was putting this down to sheer illiteracy but I've noticed that the price is always absolutely spot on - the right number of zero's and the comma in the correct place so I feel it can't be that. Surely nobody selling a high mileage Van like that thinks that somebody will come along and either not notice or say "well I'm here now I might as well buy it !

Happens all the time. Not just mileage but registration year and pricing.
The idea is to be the top of the listing. You might filter no more than 40k miles, this van will appear, you might be stupid enough to go and look at it. You may not.
Just look at Facebook (for example) and the level of illiterate morons that post on there. I'd wager there's quite a few who couldn't honestly tell the difference between 35,000 and 350,000.

Yes, I thought that - however if you had a limited budget and we're searching for a sound high miler you wouldn't pull it up in your search.Meanwhile someone with a £15k budget who did pull it up would laugh bitterly and move on.
