OK so many years ago, I would have said heated seats. We once bought a new car without after having heated seats after previous cars had them - big mistake even though it wasn’t leather trim.
My latest “can’t live without it” is a heated steering wheel - my latest 718 Boxster bought at 6 months old & now nearing 6 years old had it originally specced (I wouldn’t have specced that but really miss it if I drive my wife’s BMW that hasn’t got it) - I have cold hands so it is brilliant at warming them up on those cold winter days.
Coming a close second is the lane departure warning lights that warn of traffic on your outside - handy in a Boxster where over the shoulder visibility isn’t great. Again it came with it but probably wouldn’t have specced it.

I can never understand why auto-dimming interior rear-view mirrors are not standard on all cars, or indeed mandatory. My 1998 E36 had one, as does my F30 now. They just work, and work very effectively.

I agree with heated steering wheel, ever since getting my Model 3 I’ve wished both my 440i and the wife’s Passat had one.

I find heated seats go from 'mmm that's nice' to 'now I'm too hot' in about 5min.

Never had a heated steering wheel and could definitely see the value after scraping the windscreen on a cold morning.

On that note, I'm keen to have heated windscreen on my next daily.

Plus headlights that work. The halogens on my Megane are a joke.

Warm water means no need for scraping or a heated windscreen. It's quick as well so your hands don't get cold.

I'd struggle without a tinted rear window and auto dimming rear view mirror now.

so many vehicles being suv/4x4/pickup combined with the manufacturers headlight led lumens arms race.

I guess on the back of the deicing/scraping, I’d also say preconditioning is a fantastic feature and I’d never want to be without it again.

Going out to a toasty, already defrosted car that knows what time I’m leaving for work is fantastic, and yes, it will include the heated seats and heated steering wheel in that preconditioning.

Auto lights, all my recent cars have had them, the Volvo and SAAB dont have them but you can leave them turned on all the time and they go off with the ignition.

newest run around, you have to turn them on and off.

Yeah the Mrs' X3 PHEV has that. Cool feature. I'm sold on Android Auto too now after driving it.

Could live without either though.

Really cant see the point in heated steering wheel, my last car had it and i never used it.

Only options for me are auto/lights wipers, keyless and heated seats.

The rest are just gimmicks imo.

I’ll be buying cars with the option of a manual transmission right up until they stop making them.

That's the thing though, everyone has a different idea as to what is a gimmick, some would say the things that you like are gimmicks.

Folding mirrors, living and commuting in cities with tight parallel parking streets meaning it’s a chore without!

My F30 doesn’t have them (pisstake, when my friend is looking at old Kia Picanto’s which came with them as standard) but my mum’s Lexus does and its a lifesaver.

Head up display. Had one in my 550i, miss it in the E63, so happy it's back in the 640d.

Those clever laser full beam lights that put a block over cars in front of you but still light up around them. The E63 has these, they make overtaking so much easier when so many people now drive A and B roads at night slowly without their full beams on. I really miss them in the 640d.

Electric seats for long journey cars, so much better to be able to easily adjust on the fly when you've spent too long in the same position.

Switched from a lexus NX to a MY. As above, HUD in particular is a feature I'm missing, esp as its far too easy to reach licence busting speeds, quicker than you can say licence busting speeds. Also the 360 cameras, I didn't do my research properly when ordering (saw the deal and bought it before it sold out, I'm a shoot first and ask questions later kinda guy) and assumed being tesla and full of camera kit it would have 360 cameras. Nope.

Also missing comfy seats, the NX had best seats of any car I've sat in, the MY, in particular drivers and front passenger, are ste.

A few I can think of:

Upgraded audio - I like German cars and the stock audio system in a lot of them is absolutely shocking. I always seek out or spec the best audio system I can find.

Folding mirrors - I don't think they're very useful from a practical aspect but I like the gimmick of watching them fold when you lock the car.

My favourite feature of my latest car is cabin pre conditioning. I have been a smug bd the last couple of weeks getting into a warm car with the seats pre heated on a chilly morning.

Carplay/Android Auto - Fantastic feature, I can use Waze and Spotify right from the cars headunit so no fiddling about with a small screen to get directions and music.

360 Cameras - just makes parking so bloody easy!

Heated and cooled seats. Love heated steering wheels too - though currently dont have that.

Heated front screen is something that I have had before and it was nice, but still had to do side windows, so somewhat defeated the usefulness of it. Folding mirrors are great too, but again, could live without them too. But one final thing while I think about it - electric memory seats with mirrors too. Small thing, but it just makes things much more convenient. Unlock the car, seat moves and mirrors set - just adjust the internal mirror and you are good to go. Love that.
