Opinions on used Bentayga

Hi all,

Currently have a Cayenne as the family runabout but fancy an upgrade and like the Bentayga (used but in main dealer network with warranty)

I don't do moon miles and not super-bothered about mpg but I'm wondering if anyone has owned/driven a diesel Bentayga?

Setting aside the notion that diesel engines should not be in a Bentley it seems to get very positive reviews in terms of refinement, massive torque right from idle due to sequential turbos and a lag-eliminating electric compressor.

Anyway, just wondered what people's informed (or uninformed!) opinion is?

I won't be getting a black one as I don't want to be constantly hailed in the street!

Each to their own. A great car, but I would struggle to live with the image it projects, particularly in current times.
Bentley would have to pay me to drive one.

Thanks I'm in my late 40's so old enough not really to care about image it projects, and definitely too old to be a wannabe footballer!

I just want a special interior, a nice ride, decent turn of speed in any gear and space for the family.

I drove a V8 Bentayga recently and it did not suit the car's character-needed working a bit too hard- belonged more in the Conti GT.

Was impressed the diesel has same torque as the W12 petrol and maximum is available from 1000 rpm.

Just went on AT and oh my these are looking to be quite attractive. Non approved ones from £75k and £85k for an approved used. Granted that is still very expensive but considering they are north of £200k new, it’s a car to watch. Maybe in a couple of years you can get an approved used for 50-60k!

Yes true. Approved Bentleys that old are not common but not unheard of. Unsurprisingly they tend to be single-owner examples that have remained in the main dealer service network. There is an Approved W12 Flying Spur on a 64 plate for £49k on AT.

I don’t have one but a client of mine does. She went from a Cayenne to a Bentayga too. It’s a logical step forwards. As a passenger, I found it unendingly delightful. I’m used to nice cars but this was a really lovely thing inside.

Her take — not quite as poised on road as the Cayenne (hers was a Turbo though) but nicer inside and a bit more spacious. Bentley centres better at customer service than Porsche, in general.

She’s lost a lot of money in depreciation on her Bentayga but I think she’s planning to keep it long term so it doesn’t matter too much.

You will get a few absolute rockets approach you at fuel stations with their reverse snobbery settings turned up to 11 and wishing to share their waggish opinions on the car. (I’ve been in the car with her when this happens.) But if you can dismiss this as a ‘them problem’ it barely matters.

I never understand why people care so much about other peoples opinions. I’d have one and wouldn’t care what people thought. Why would you?

The interior in them looks absolutely stunning.

They're a fantastic car, not as focused as the Cayenne but the ride is smooth as & the interior is a delight & clear step on from the Porsche.

The V8 diesel actually really suits it, they never feel short of breath as for their supposed image, I'd pay it no mind it's just background noise.

I know three people with them & all of them are very happy them I will say if you press on they roll & pitch a bit but that's not what they were built for.

Yes the Cayenne does have very good rode manners. I'm sure her Turbo-like my hybrid, has PASM with adjustable ride height which makes for a nice ride while retaining feel. As for weapons at fuel stations-occupational hazard I guess at least visits would be less frequent with a diesel! I think it pays to go Used Approved with a £200k car-they only have 1 year as standard but an extra one is about £3.5k. Glad I went approved with the Cayenne too-needed a front nearside door mechanism, wiring harness, airbag and other gremlins seen to.

They are no doubt an excellent vehicle.

Not one I'd care to own, I wouldn't be happy displaying such conspicuous excessive consumption.

Fair play to those that do aspire to one.

Thanks ZX-some good examples there. I'd probably go Bentley certified just so I could extend the warranty if I wanted.

Quite fancy this type of colour scheme, maybe in Mulliner spec.

I'm pretty sure you can extend the all of the ones I linked to as they have FMDSH so should qualify for an extended warranty at you're cost of course

Yes you are completely right they'd be eligible in theory though I think you have to pay about a grand for Bentley to inspect it first to check it 'qualifies' so if they spot a non-Bentley cabin lightbulb you changed yourself you they can refuse (I exaggerate but you know what I mean!)

Have you considered a Range Rover, the proper one? They’re lovely motorway cruisers and fabulous to sit in. The SDV8 is the one to have.
