MG ev owners should be ashamed
Discussion
We've recently had widespread media condemnation of football matches being played in a popular holiday destination where religious beliefs don't tally with our own values, and yet car reviewers seem to be falling over themselves to tell us how great the new Chinese mg4 is.
Even my parents were considering one because its apparently 'good value'. Well yes, I bet it is when they cut corners!
MG comes under the Chinese state owned Saic Motor corporation. So be under no mistake that your cheap car is funding human rights violations.
And what of the company itself? Of course, it and a few other Chinese companies are bottom of the human rights benchmark, with a score of 0.1 out of 100. How reassuring.

Some car companies, that sell their cars for more no doubt, have tried to make the overall production process more sustainable. And then there is Saic, who is one of the top 100 polluters on the planet, withseemingly no, or few commitments to reducing their impact.

Lastly for my rant, I'd be very concerned that the moment I connect my phone to the car, the Chinese govt would be stealing my data. Paranoid perhaps... ? quick Google.... oh look, it has been proven.

So it's pretty easy to see how they can produce these cars for cheap. It comes at other expenses! And 25k is not 'cheap', and nobody is forcing you to buy these cars. You can get used evs for less.
But if you're cool with funding serious human rights abuses, aiding the Chinese state govt and don't care about the overall carbon footprint of your 'sustainable ' ev, then crack on. But ypu should be ashamed of yourself in my view. Oh, and they look rubbish too.

Throwing things out you already own wouldn't make much sense from an environmental point of view as it would need replacement. Living without Chinese made componentry is very very difficult (almost impossible), reducing the amount is pretty easy.covmutley said:

What did you type this on? Something mostly Chinese I suspect.Even my parents were considering one because its apparently 'good value'. Well yes, I bet it is when they cut corners!

Knew this would come. Of course I own many things made in China. Its largely unavoidable. But other companies aren't as bad- proven by the links I posted. An argument that you may as well not worry about how your 25k car was built because you also once bought a salt and pepper mill made in China is pure lazy.

Should we also be boycotting Volvo, polestar, the London cab company and lotus? All owned by the Chinese ?
I suspect volvo and lotus have better workers conditions and corporate governance
And your other tech, and the Christmas presents you give if they are made in China.
We love the products too much to give them up. Like a bad drug.

Samsung, actually. Probably equally full of Chinese componentry.
But at least it's not a Chinese state owned company. I suspect, apple has committed less human rights violations than the Chinese govt?
When you talk about human rights violations, you must live a very ethical life. Let's say you don't support football, buy Tesla's, Audi, BMWs, Mercedes and VAGs. What about the clothes you wear and food you eat. God it must be hard to stay on the good side of ethics,it ends up a never ending argument as well. But at least it's not a Chinese state owned company. Living without Chinese made componentry is very very difficult (almost impossible), reducing the amount is pretty easy.Any electronic components with precious metals that’s been mined in some hell hole must also be ruled out. No batteries for him I suppose, that’s every electric car on the market.
Just go and live in a sustainable forest and farm your own food, they are out there. Then come back and somehow post on the internet complaining and someone might take you seriously
