Help with transferring Fortnight Account Switch to Xbox

Merry Xmas all.
I'm trying to transfer my sons Fortnight account from Nintendo Switcj to his new xbox.
I thought it was all done through Epic Games account and have setup and tried linking it through the Account on Epic games but the saved data and progress isn't the same as what he currently has on Switch.
I can only think that he plays through Nintendo online account rather than Epic games hence why it's not transferring to xbox.
Anyone know how I sort this ? I've been trying all day !

Also if you login to www.epicgames.com > accounts > apps & accounts, is this configured for Xbox and Nintendo?

Yes it is the same and I have linked accounts but when he plays on his xbox which he has upgraded to so will play on this more its as if he's just started the game as a new player and has lost all skins and progress etc..
The game names are different but I think they would be anyway
