BMW M440d X Drive Coupe
Discussion
I’ve been thinking about buying one of these 2 Door Coupe’s for a while. However with high prices and a lack of availability, I ruled it out.
I’ve just noticed that prices have come down and I’m potentially ready to purchase.
However, I’ve heard that the ride is very firm that somewhat puts me off. Has anyone got much experience of this model and would the ride be much firmer than my current 2019 530d M Sport. Also would it be significantly noisier. These things are important to me as most of my mileage is done on the motorway.

You'll just have to test drive some I suppose.
Some are specced with the comfort plus package, I guess you should aim for one of those. I'm not sure if they result in changes to the suspension to make it softer though.
The problem is that I am abroad at the moment and wanted to do the deal remotely. When buying a 5 Series that was easy. With a 4 Series it’s all a little bit unknown. Had one as a loan car while the 8 series was in for some work.
Thought the car was very compliant and comfortable covered a long 8hr run up and down the motorway in it in one day and honestly didn't feel any aches or pains from the car and was shocked at the economy (60mpg).
I too have been waiting for the prices to drop as although the 8 series is mega I find it a little too big for every day use and much preferred the 440d when I had it for a few weeks.
As for noise and insulation, it wasn't as well insulated as the 8 series but it was nice and quiet and the cabin was a nice place to be sat. Car in question was a 22 plate at the time.
Give the power and economy plus the added tech and infotainment over your 530d I'd definitely sway towards making the purchase. You probably won't notice the performance gain on a roll however from standing starts it's brisk with the 4wd

Any M440ds where you are currently? You could pose as a potential buyer?Obviously for a coupe you need the M Sport trim which most buyers spec-that includes 18" wheels with associated noise and firmness but important for overall look. You could swap the run-flats out for regular tyres which have a softer side wall?
Try to find one with the M Sport Pro pack. As well as better audio it has Adaptive M Suspension. Given your needs I think this is essential.
Comfort Plus less essential but electric front seats inc. adjustable lumbar support would be nice, and has keyless entry, heated steering wheel, electric bootlid
Many thanks for the replies.
I’ve seen that Adaptive Dampers are standard and that is enough to enable me to buy remotely. The package that is essential to me is the Technology one as that includes the uprated Hifi.
I will be speaking to some dealers today and hopefully a deal will be done.

I have just picked up a G22 430d xdrive so can hopefully offer some insight. I will caveat that my backlog has included several Renaultsports including a 280 Cup which I found okay but most journalists did comment on the solid ride.
Nevertheless I am finding the 430 supremely comfortable. Road noise seems low, seats are great with loads of adjustment and the ride is great in comfort mode. Probably the only thing that might improve it a bit further is to swap to 18s with non-runflats.
Can't comment on other specs but mine has the Msport pro pack (diff, adaptive suspension, 19" wheels), Comfort plus (electric seats+mem, lumbar, heated seats and wheel, comfort access and electric boot) and laserlights. Doesn't have the tech pack but the standard stereo sounds good to me at least and the laserlights are fantastic imo. 50mpg+ on a cruise so far, struggling to fault it tbh, even the grilles are looking better now. Any questions fire away

I collected my BMW M440d and have found it thus far a refined cruiser. The handling and ride are absolutely perfect and it appears to have quite a bit more technology than the BMW 530d M Sport it replaced.
We are planning a cruise through France from St. Malo to the Dordogne possibly via La Rochelle in August.

Many congratulations and as you’ll discover they really are the perfect all rounder. We took ours to France in 2022 and of all the years we’ve been going there the parking situation appeared to be getting worse. Be very careful where you park it as most will show zero respect for your pride and joy.
