Just watching the Top Gear Patagonia special again - brings back memories ! Sad to think they is to leave it in Argentina. Great looking car that was 🥰. Even though it had Morris Marina door handles 😂😎.

No Morris Marina door handles on that model. They were replaced by Vauxhall items from the 93my onwards.

Your old car?

Nice motor, must’ve been odd seeing your old car being driven around on a top gear special and thrashed about.

Richard Porter spoke about this on a Smith & Sniff podcast. According to him no one knew about the registration until the car arrived in South America for filming. Even then, it wasn't given a second glance.

He suggested that the car was one of only two available to buy at the time and what they were accused of was far too subtle for the Top Gear crew to have come up with.

I've just returned from a trip to the USA.

Whilst there I was out with an ex Pat who was showing me some of the local roads. I was parked up taking photos of a car when a cyclist came past.

We said hello, and little else - but were met with a barrage of swear words, rude gestures and general hatred because the guy was Argentinian and we were English (his words).

The irony being, the chap I was with was an Irish ex pat.

Never known such instant hatred before, and this was in sunny Southern California on a very nice day - no need for any aggro
