Test drove an M12 GTO3 last night. Awesome. Sounds like a spaceship and goes like one too. Its an amazing machine.

Car seemed perfect other than one tiny feature you guys might be able to help with:

After the drive we switched the engine off and opened the rear end bit (clamshell???) to see the engine and I could hear a faint hiss from the back end - like something releasing pressure - is this normal?

Cheers guys

not the most technical here but they do tend to make all sorts of hisses burps and splutters. Mine certainly seems to relieve itself of a certain amount of excess gas when it stops. Bit like me really !

Cheers man, thats reassuring. I've just got the fear of getting a car and then finding the coolant system falling apart on me!

Any definitive answers would be most welcome just to be absolutely sure tho

Mine will boil the coolant a little after stopping, and you can sometimes here bubbling in the header tank. It's not a problem.

Would that cause this faint hissing noise?

I get the same thing Phil's on my M400.

You'll need to put your head near the coolant resevoir and see if the noise gets louder - if it sounds link boiling water it probably is.

Yea, we used to have that problem when I lived down in Texas. Get yourself down into the rear wheelwell and pry the armadillo out.

If I pop the rear clam on mine after a spin its been known to sit and make quiet hissing noises (sounds like air in a hose kinda thing) -- no leaks of any kind so guess this is "normal" -- its only just audible tho....

Both the coolant and the power steering fluid are known to bubble away, but that's generally not a "hissing" sound. If it was hot weather, the fuel tank does also get hot and hence it could be a bit of fuel expansion vapour - but I've never expierenced that.

As with all car purchases, it's always best to get a professional to check the car over before you finalise it. If it's a private buy I'd approach one of the Noble service centres to give the car the once over, if it's a dealer sell then ask them directly what the noise is.

I guess I'll have a chat with the dealer. From what people are saying about their cars making a few hissing and bubbling sounds, its probably normal but I shall ensure I set my mind at rest one way or another if I decide to go ahead with it.

Ah - that is perfectly normal - the cooling system is pressurised and hence it will "boil" itself when you stop.

As you say though, check with the dealer - they are all knowledgeable and will tell you what it is/was.

My mum's car does this every time the car warms up fully and it switched off (I know because I supervise her into the garage). It has done this from new.

The sound comes from the air filters, so I imagine it's just some kind of vacuum being filled.

Funny that it only does it when it's warm though.
