Ebay has restricted my selling activity and is asking me to upload ID documentation to reinstate it. I can still buy, just not sell. Why is my identity any of ebay's business?

Any fraud warnings recently? Has your username and password been compromised elsewhere? Any high value items?

EBay have for years required sellers to be verified, for basic selling an active CC which matches your account details should enough. Seller verification is suppose to happen before you’re allowed to sell not afterwards. Business programmes require extended verification by default.

I’d guess this is either an error on their part or something has flagged, might be items, address, details or even activity. Triggering the system to force extended verification with photo ID.

No fraud warnings.
Username/password was compromised many years ago, to the point where I was resetting my password on a daily basis. It hasn't happened since I turned on 2fa.

I've had lsitings for up to a couple of grand each previously. This is still the case.

I've never had to verify myself by supplying them pasport or driving license pics.

I'm on a selling break currently but if they ask for verification I might just not bother returning .

A lot of my stuff was not selling well at the moment anyway .

That's 'cos you're on a "selling break" and not listing anything!

It's normal.

They won't release it without drivers licence or similar.

I argued it for weeks. No joy. Twice. Went through it once about 4 years ago and again recently they asked again.

I belive the old selling limit of 5k was reduced to 3k. Not 100% on that. Buy as you are selling higher value items it's defo going to trigger ID check.

Also in the USA ebay has to report any sales of over 600usd on certain items to the IRS so if you use GSP then that might also trigger it.

Frankly I have given up caring who has my ID now. Unless you are the kind of person using tor browser and dodgy vpns then they know your IP anyway and if you use any sort of Google services then you are truly stuffed because they share everything anyway.

Personally as time has gone on I think it's a good thing ebay seem to be getting their act together.

Just to add, I belive the more recent checks are because of the new payments system. Fwiw.
