I realise this has probably been asked a thousand times before but imagine you’re being attacked by a swarm of deadly African killer wasps; you seek sanctuary in your car; you close all the air vents; closing the doors is probably a good idea; Question, would the wasps be able to find their way in via other ways or would you be safe? I’m guessing you’d be safer in a modern car, NCAP and all that and an older car may have more gaps etc. What say you? Oh and snakes as well, you can’t trust them eithermad

Well rain doesn't get in so I don't think a wasp would be able to.

I've been chased into a car after (accidentally) kicking a wasps nest and at least 5 or 10 made it into the car with me, they were stuck in folds of clothing and up trouser legs etc so that's the bigger problem, getting rid of them before you open the door!

There’s often cabin air exhaust vents behind the rear bumper that only have a rubber flap as a crude one way valve. Might end up with a boot full of wasps.

…but if you dropped the car in a swimming pool would water get inside? Remember the old adage ’where ever water can get in, so can a wasp’? Not for nothing are they called ‘nature’s bds’.

As mentioned. Normally there is a vent at the back of the car somewhere. This usually bleeds into the boot/tailgate slam panel or rear bumper somewhere. This is because when you have your fans on you need to let the air escape somewhere otherwise you're just pressurising the cabin.

There's also various other small drainage holes about the place.

Id be surprised if a new modern car would be breached by a swarm of angry wasps but it does depend on the car. I think a wasp would find its way into my wife's Smart 453 for example but not my (slightly older) Volvo S80.

Sounds like one of those Sci-Fi channel movies with the old Police Academy actors in it.

What is it with people and wasps, firstly there are no African killer wasps, secondly there are thousands of different species of wasp and many are incredibly important for controlling pest species and pollination. Non are dangerous unless you have an allergy.

They're very dangerous if you happen to be my garden furniture. They snack on it like it's a giant seating-shaped bar of Dairy Milk!

And breaking nooz - Two members of an underground cult website called "Pissed on Heads" have been found dead in their cars due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in separate incidents. Investigators are... investigating.

They don't snack on it, they turn it into paper

The fact that they're doing arts & crafts instead of dining out doesn't make me feel any better about them!

If the car doesn’t have a pollen filter, they’ll get in through the inlet under the windscreen cowl and through the fan and pop out of the vents.

not suggesting you change your opinion, although knowing the reason why is interesting surely?

Wasp stings in sufficiently large numbers simultaneously can be pretty dangerous!
