Ive got a 09 convertible v8v.

When the battery is flat in the vantage and i jump it off another vehicle, ive heard differing opinions on where the black negative lead should be attached to.

Out of the locations, 1, 2 below (or another if you think) where should the black lead be clamped too ?

The earth is negative, and can go on the engine or chassis, somewhere man enough to get a good electrical connection. I prefer the engine

I tend to use the alternator body/mount, generally clean and always a good ground.

Good advice generally, but the alternator of a V8V is not exactly accessible from above.

To answer the OP, I'd use option 1.

Option 2 looks like alloy and won't work.

Unless the Vantage is different to most other cars I've owned, it's not worth using the engine as a contact point for the negative lead.

Most engines are mounted using some kind of soft(ish) mount which also isolates it electrically. The engine therefore requires a beefy earth lead to attach it electrically to the chassis. Therefore, if you attach the negative jump lead to the engine, you're connecting to the chassis anyway via the OE earth lead - you might as well connect straight to the chassis.

I'm not sure if anodised aluminium is a good conductor, so I'd be tempted to find the biggest chassis bolt I could find in the engine bay - top left of OP's original photo looks like a good contender.

The relay mounting bracket would probably work fine, but it would be VERY close to the positive jump lead - any contact between leads is not advisable...
