Massive price difference between new vs. nearly new

Recently looking at BMW M340i prices and saw that the RRP for these is outrageous vs. nearly new examples.

Here is a new one advertised at £66K (downright silly)

Or you can have a 10K 2021 car for £37K (quite a good deal)

Seems that buying new leads to between £17K and £29K loss in 1 year

The blue one is probably keenly priced as it is missing key option packs people are after (no plus pack, no tech pack). It has the visibility pack but I think buyers on the whole prefer what the tech/plus pack gives you over laser lights. It would not surpise me if that blue car is an ex rental as some of the rental companies had m340i/d on the fleets.

The Black one is expensive because it looks like it has every option including frozen paint.

We I managed to quickly spec a new one up on the BMW configurator to 72 grand ticking everything, so I guess thats the correct price for a well specced one.

Not many people will pay full list price for these as there are usually good discounts available through brokers or TRL. I paid £42k for mine new in 2020, list was about £54k I think. Things are more expensive now but reckon you could get new for 50k.

There are several 1yo with less than 10k on them.

Or you could buy new for under £90k... Discounted by £25k, as the RRP is absurd.

In M5 case the difference between RRP and 1 yo is about £40k.

Interesting that people are willing to pay so much for a few trivial options, that are 90% margin to the manufacturer.

Point of the post is about price differences with respect to high RRP.

If you have something to say about that subject, then great, but guessing at a stranger's circumstances and wishes are not relevant.

Wont be long before big discounts will be starting again. Only way to make 14% finance work .
