Potential Criminal Behaviour????
Discussion
Hi All,
This may be something it may not but I thought I’d ask to see if anyone else has had a similar experience?
A couple of nights ago I had to pop to town, my 13 year old daughter opted to wait in the car. When I got back she was a bit shaken up, 3 dodgy blokes had congregated behind my car (2017 Q7) fiddling with the back and took a picture of the car???
They clearly didn’t see my daughter in the back.
Speaking to a couple of mates they could have put a tracker on the back and plan to come to my house to steal the car????
I keep the keys in one of those metal boxes so they can’t read the signal, will this foil them (no pun intended)
??????
Cheers
Jon

Have you checked the car? This may be something it may not but I thought I’d ask to see if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Regardless report to the police via 101 or online as suspicious behaviour. If in town centre there maybe CCTV which could show there intentions or actions. Might also be a piece in jigsaw of further offences

Cheers yes done a quick visual check but can’t see anything obvious but also wouldn’t know what to look for? Guessing not like in films with flashing red light??
Look underneath. You'll be looking for a waterproof box of some form that's probably placed on crooked with glue or magnets. If you're properly concerned, pop to a local garage and have them pop it up on a ramp and have a good nose underneath. They're more likely to spot something and it'll be worth a small fee for the peace of mind. It could've just been chancers trying doors and boots on a nice car. If you find something, take it straight to the police. If you don't then you can sleep easy. Thanks fir all your input guys as always very helpful and polite.
I’ve made several attempts to alert the police via phone, they don’t really care as car I hasn’t been stolen……yet!!!
I have a house alarm and cctv I’m hoping that if the scumbags do turn up they’ll opt for a softer less fortified target.
Let’s see though hopefully it is just nothing.
Have a great New Year one and all!!!
Cheers

A neighbour had his jacket pinched from a pub, keys and wallet stolen. He cancelled all his cards changed the locks on his house and put a steering wheel lock on the car.... one night the thieves got into the car, started it and drove straight up the road not realising they couldn't go right at a junction so abandoned it and ran off - I presume they thought they could break the steering lock! If you are concerned about losing the car get a good metal, solid steering wheel lock.
Making a report to the police of suspicious activity days after the event is likely to result in an Intelligence Log being created (maybe).
Given that you wouldn't be reporting anything other than "suspicious behaviour" and no actual offences (no damage caused, no tracker found etc) it's very unlikely the police would be able to allocate the resources to check CCTV.

The Q7 owner I know paid an Audi certified independent to put 'Ghost' on their car. I think it may thwart the keyless repeater thefts or something.
Ghost 2 is a separate immobiliser that’s connected to the cars CANBUS wiring. To unlock the immobiliser you have to press certain buttons on the steering wheel or radio. When you get it installed you get to choose which buttons to press and in what order. Even if the criminals have your keys they can’t drive off.
Alternative systems are a tracker (a real car tracker not a Apple tag), so that if someone does steal your car, your car can be located. Tracker companies are staffed 24/7 so they’ll be notified if your car is moving at 3am without the tracker keyring fob.
The more expensive trackers also have an immobiliser built in that won’t start the car without their keyring fob. So even if they do clone your keys, the engine won’t start. I keep my tracker/immobiliser fob separately from the car key, so even if someone was to physically have the car key on them (for example, stealing my car key) they still wouldn’t be able to start the car.
