An under rated movie imo having just rewatched it last night.
Gets a little silly near the end but the story is good, and poor future captain America proves his worth by have 3 incidents of extreme freezing to his body.

Quite a Marmite film but I think it's excellent. Looks terrific (made by a British SFX team rather than in the US), decent cast, and the soundtrack is great. It does go a bit 'Event Horizon' and would probably have been an even better film if it hadn't.

It one of those proper 'sci-fi' films. Excellent film.

Yep, great film and some of Danny Boyles best work. Proper grown up sci-fi.

It looks fantastic with a great cast, but the actual story is largely nonsensical.

It would be nice to have real ish science. And the nutter on the other ship lost me the first time I saw it.

What did he do all day waiting for them? Play evil crosswords? Did he have an evil kitchenette to make his scrambled eggs?

There's very little out there that looks as good but it feels similar to Interstellar. All that effort was expended on a story any competent script editor would've chucked out on a skim read.

Great for the first 2/3rds, spoiled by the stupid ending.

Yeah, you have to kind of suspend everything you know about science for it to make sense, but if you can treat it as essentially a fantasy and not worry about that stuff it's a really good watch.

There are so few genuinely entertaining sci-fi films where you can't pick massive holes in the science, sometimes you just have to go for the entertaining option.

Of course you could always watch Life instead, and tick both the stupid and terrible boxes.

Is this the film where the guy gets flambéd while repairing a shield or something?

This. I dearly love sunshine, but it doesn’t quite hang together in the final act.

I could let the bomb/ sun stuff go, not the super human meat man bit.

It would've been far more compelling if he had his own use for their bomb that was equally worthy, or just any reason for his capering about beyond being bonkers.

Lovely to look at all the same with much better characterisation than the average sci fi too.
