Just picked up an '09 Alfa 147 and noticed it had a perfectly functioning cigarette lighter. This got me wondering what the newest car you have seen on sale in this country with a lighter was as most are now just power sockets and no ashtray.

15 plate Panamera. Granted, the ashtray is barely big enough to hold the cigar lighter, but it's there.

Many cars have a 'Smokers Package' available as an option or dealer fit accessory.
The new Range Rover being one example.

Not having looked at recent packages I didn't think this would be a thing in this day and age!

I have not seen a ‘smokers package’ in car options for a few years now. Basically a USB socket replaced the old (cigarette lighter based) socket. The dilemma for manufacturers now will be which USB socket to offer.

My 2017 440i has a cigarette lighter. It’s never been used, and in fact I’ve replaced it with a plastic blank that’s shaped like a lighter.

Porsche still offer it. On some models its optioned in as on the centre console there's just a small open cubby hole. The smokers package puts a door on it making it look neater

Tbf they stopped making the 440 in 1996 so yours just have been a late registration*

  • Yes, I know you mean BMW but to me the 440 will always be a Volvo

Yup. Many a non-smoking Porsche owner took delivery and thought “bugger, should have ticked the smoker pack”.

Reminds me of when i got my Corsa C back in 05. Was pre-registered but only had less than 50 miles on the clock. Was very basic spec and didn't actually come with the smokers pack. Went into the parts department at VX and bought a "replacement" ashtray for about a tenner. Dunno how much the smokers pack was, but iirc it was a bargain comparatively.
