Quiet day today so decided to remove the delaminated veneer from my Vantage. I’m undecided whether to re veneer or leave as polished aluminium. I’ve given the bits a quick polish and looking reasonable so far. Radio panel has an uneven gap from a crude attempt at aftermarket radio fit so will need work.

I like the idea of the polished aluminium - what colour is the remainder of the trim in the car - black? green?

Not sure it would look right with the general aura of the car, but it's much easier than trying to veneer all those curves!

Hydro dipping might be an idea if you're DIYing it.

Car is blue/cream leather. The earlier dunhill special edition had Ali trim and carbon fibre was an option @ some point on the vantage. Would love genuine carbon fibre but not keen on wrap.

Reading with interest. My DB7V has Burr Walnut veneer trim against Pacific blue leather. Think carbon fibre would suit my car better and considering removing the trim to have this company do their thing. They seem good and quoted £275+ VAT to do all my trim in carbon fibre:

Ideally, would preserve the Burr Walnut and get a second set carbon dipped.

Here is an image from the original DB7V brochure showing the carbon fibre trim option:

I toyed with carbon fibre wrap but wasn’t sure a wrap would do the car justice but you can get genuine carbon fibre laid up but it would be tricky cutting all the required holes for the dash. I’ve been asked for some info re removing trim. It’s a while since I took some of it off so apologies if not completely accurate.

Removing door cards is easy and needs removal of 3 screws under the door, as well as (in my car) a Philips screw to remove the plastic MX5 inner door handle. This should allow you to push up on the card and remove. Beware of speaker wires/remote mirror wires when pulling the card away.

The wood door trims are them removed by removing the plastic retaining nuts to the rear of the card and washers. The trim should then push out easily.

For the top dash veneer extending from above the passenger airbag you need to remove the leather trim section in front of the passenger air bag. These are held in place by metal retainers and pulling the trim (carefully) towards you should allow it to drop forwards onto its retaining bands. This will allow you to get your hands behind the veneer and remove the plastic retaining nuts (x4 in my car) and allow removal of the veneer.

The central veneer panel housing the heater controls is also held in by 4 retaining nuts. Removal of the radio will assist here. Also the leather surround to the central veneer can be pulled forwards by removing / screws located at the top of the trim, obvious when you have removed the long thin veneer section above the passenger airbag. This should allow you enough wiggle room to get the centre veneer off the dash.

The gearstick surround trim on my car was a pain. From memory I had to remove the centre console armrest and the box in the centre console to allow access to the fixings retaining the trim in place. Take care not to damage the ashtray mechanism here as it’s brittle plastic. If you do, fear not, as they are the sale as in Jaguar XK8 and X308 so available cheaply.

I’m sure my dash has been removed previously so it’s possible the steps listed above may differ. Any queries I’m happy to help.

Gear surround post removal. NB. Don’t try and pull the veneered dash tray lid off. It’s held in with tiny screws accessible on the underside of the lid.
