Vaxhaull Adam Heater Controls not lighting up

My girlfriend has a 2017 Vaxhaull Adam and one thing I’ve noticed is the lights for the heater controls come on intermittently. They usually don’t come on straight away as you start driving.

This is quite annoying because in the dark you can’t see what you’re selecting until it comes on.

At first I thought it was just a feature of the car but doesn’t seem very logical? Anyone know anything about this? Is it meant to happen on these cars or could it be an electrical issue?
