4 Valve Heads - who'd buy some?
Discussion
Lol, knowing cerbera owners, unless its as cheap as a quick half-a-pint down the local boozer.... you can forget it...
I reckon theres probably maybe, 1 or 2 tops in here who will pay for the honour of going up to 550-650bhp through NA means...
The thing to remember is, the costs will include:
* new intake manifolds
* new throttlebodies
* new air-intake trunking (probably)
* new injectors
* new fuel rail + regulator
* new gaskets
* modifications to block
* new exhaust headers
* Would be recommended with these power-levels:
- new rods
- new pistons
- if cast crankshaft, get a forged one
* timing changes, requiring extensive tuning mapping work
- new ECU (most likely)
- new wiring harness
Then... theres the bog standard T5 and baby differential with pencil-dik driveshafts - which would probably die with a few shockloads of 8000rpm blast-offs...
* New gearbox (or rebuild current to stronger spec)
* New differential
* New driveshafts
* New Clutch
So Steve, you tell me, which cerbera owner will say 'yup I want one'...

I think the 32 valve head would be on a lot of peoples list of dreams but it does come down to money as Ash says (although a little cruely
).
Then again though, 0-60 in 4.0 dead and 0-100 in 9 dead you've gotta ask yourself if you really need to move up.
I would like a shot if I had the money

If you think the current 'big' service costs a lot in labour to adjust all the valve clearances, just imagine what it'll be like with twice as many to do.
On a more serious note, remember that the current two valve per cylinder heads are very good for generating torque (just what you need for acceleration); four valve heads are likely to change the character of the delivery making it more of a high revving, deliver-all-the-power-at-the-top-end-with-little-midrange-torque engine.
I think we'd all agree that the current design is pretty good at delivering kidney-punch acceleration: long may it live.

But a 32 valve head might at some point pass emissions..I'll get my coat

Or you could run the existing 16 valve head engine on dedicated LPG, reduce emissions and fuel costs. Could also up the compression to suit
(I'm next in line at the coat rack....) Rob Dance said:
LPG
now that`s opening a whole new can of locusts !
You wouldn`t want to be upping the c.r. and use lpg, sure way of reducing the life of all those valves.
LPG has a higher octane rating than petrol at about 110 RON (but a lower calorific value, about 85%), so compression can be raised within limits

You two came in with coats????? in this weather???? are you mad????
Lucky someone didn't think it suspicious they were wearing coats in this weather and shoot them!
funny.... (a little distasteful, quick, get your coat too, before this thread becomes a PC thread like the other one... lol)

It does, but it also burns slower, needing more advance. There's a whole stack of good stuff on the RPI website.

Lungs? No smoked for 20years err kidneys? sh*t selt one already to pay for last service, emmmmm maybe motorbike, no already gone to pay for clutch.
There's some further costs - I'd wager suspension and possibly brakes would need some attention too. Well it's nice dreaming anyway
