I've noticed some play in the dipstick tube, so I've been trying to see how it is fixed to the block. Anyone else had this? Any photos of how it is attached to the block greatly appreciated. Mines a 2003 car with dipstick at the front end. The movement seems to be side to side.

The tube is attacked to the top of the sump via a compression type fitting, with the tube running through the centre of the nut. There is an additional plate welded to the tube to which it attaches to the front timing case bolt.

If you need any photos mine is currently not attached to the engine.

Thanks Peter, photo helps. Do you have one of the timing cover fixing too? Do you think these are accessible with engine in car?

You could use a rubber coated p clip. Just remove a timing cover bolt and pit it in the best place to stop the stick moving. It's a stupid place any way the front fibre glass panel gets in the way.
