Thought I’d revisit with my 13 year old - oh dear oh dear it’s cringey, Uber woke and just delivered with an unsubtle style that probably suites the demographic - horrific.

I haven't got the slightest idea what you are trying to convey.

What did you find woke about it? It tackled a few contemporary issues for sure, I enjoyed it. Hardly high brow intellectual stuff but for an easy watching TV drama, yup, it was fine

The protest was devoid of any shred of reality, how many school kids care?

It’s a blown up super exaggerated version of what the writers think kids think.

You'd be amazed at how passionate some, not all, kids are about issues they believe in, on both 'sides' of the 'woke' divide. I have this discussion most days with my dad who is in his seventies and trots out the apathetic, spoon fed, entitled trope all the time. He, and others who think this way, could not be further from the truth.

Waterloo Road was always st.

I struggle to believe it had the capacity to get worse.

This thread is pretty cringey. Why do you seem to think all entertainment/media should be to your taste. The entitlement of some people is unreal.

Yet another thread on PH with the same clique of posters all typing exactly the same phrases, comments, tag-lines, talking points and insults, just because someone dares to have a different opinion than them.

Unless I’ve missed something, I don’t believe that DS Liverpool stated anywhere that everyone should like exactly the same thing on TV that he does, merely that he didn’t like Waterloo Road.

Or should we all like exactly the same thing, or not dare pass critique the official message?

The problem with all you professional "critics" on here, including the OP, is that some people may actually like the show?

Has that never occurred to you?

Whoever the production company that has produced the show is, I am shocked and amazed that DSLiverpool thinks that he knows better than all the researchers, PR people, programme-planners, et al, know absolutely fk-all about producing good, compelling TV!

Note to TV producers — run your new ideas before DSLiverpool before committing any budget.

You know he's not a "DS", don't you?

Hey man, I was just asking what he found woke in order to have a discussion about it. Or are you suggesting we should just let people post whatever without engaging with them? Be a pretty boring and pointless forum if we did that, wouldn't it?

Sebring440 thanks for following me on Tiktok - good to have the odd unhinged keyboard warrior on board hehe

Ep 1 of Waterloo road had (amongst others)
- White privilege hammered home
- Historic leaders and entrepreneurs now deemed unacceptable (rightly so in many cases)
- Homelessness
- Pet rights (I st you not)
- Justified vandalism
- Bewildering marriage issues
- Random death via a 5 mph shunt
- school performance v what’s best for the pupil

Yes I know it’s just tv and it’s always been crap but I was overwhelmed whilst watching it of the sheer number of issues they crammed in.

I can’t wait for the next episode biglaugh

White Privilege? Yes. My Wife isn’t white. She’s never found the colour of her skin to being a barrier to doing quite well in life. The same is true of many of my friends, most of which have also done very well for themselves.

Historic Leaders? Yes. You can’t change the past no matter how much you cry about it. I’ve no idea which historic leaders the programme was referencing, as I didn’t watch it, but many of these ‘evil people’ shaped the world we live in today.

Homelessness? No. It’s a very serious issue that current and previous Governments have done little to address, (unless you’ve entered the country illegally).

Pet rights? I don’t know the context, but I’m firmly against animal cruelty.

Justified Vandalism? Yes. Vandalism is never justified.

Bewildering Marriage Issues? I don’t know the context.

Death after 5mph accident? Yes. A blanket ‘Speed Kills’ message is a myth.

School Performance? Again, I don’t know the context.

Do you not find any of those issues to be ‘woke’?

No, not really. Every generation protests against what went on before in history. Its not "woke" to be think that the way the world works could be improved.

I am very interated in what constitutes 'woke' for some people. Did you watch the programme? How can you judge what is or isn't 'woke' even by your own standards if you haven't? I didn't find any of the topics 'woke', just things people deal with and talk about on a daily basis. I am really intersted in the breadth and depth that this little word 'woke' has been attributed with over the years as it seems it is one of those words that means all things to all men and as ever its original meaning seems to have been lost in time.

Woke to me is being aware of things that affect others you might not be aware of - I’ve no issue with it my post is about HOW MANY you can cram
Into 1 episode - it is box ticking for the BBC rather than giving the subjects proper attention.

If you frequent the Business section of this forum, you’ll see that DS is in the digital marketing game, which probably explains his TikToc, Instagram and other social media accounts.
