Hi everyone hope you all had a better Christmas and new year than I did.
Back again for advice and sarcastic banter like “ it will polish t-cut out “ 😂
I’m cursed, every car I have gets hit and never my fault 🤦‍♀️
So found my parked car outside house smashed up hit and run 22/12/22 Cctv quality rubbish and foggy night. Can’t angle camera around bend of houses to get reg plates and lights glare anyway….so having to claim off myself fault claim. It’s been a nightmare, daily phone calls to insurance and approved repairer. They dumped my car in storage via a rescue truck. Fobbed me off waited nearly 2 weeks for a courtesy car. My wheel locking nuts have mysteriously gone missing. Repairer refuses to take alloys off so unsure if they are doing a full structural inspection. They say it’s all only cosmetic. New wing, door skin replacement and quarter panel filler. MOT due 19th so I’m screwed not able to get replacement locking nut key.
Would you guys say I’m being paranoid over reactive to want my car wheels checked and alignment checked ? Cctv shows a small white van speeding and collide into y car which made it wobble jolt side to side and the driver just speeds off.
Could there be any hidden damage that could cause future wheel alignment steering rack etc issues ?
If the repairer refuses to assess wheels properly and just do cosmetic repairs and it fails MOT on 19th what legal rights would I have with the insurance and their approved garage ?
Advise welcome please because my brain is pickled with this mess.

All the panels appear to be still well outside the line of the wheels, so unless there is obvious damage to the wheels from an impact I don’t think you need to be worrying about wheel alignment and potential suspension damage.

Hi Chris
Yes I am either unlucky or cursed. My corsa was smashed up twice second time written off was parked outside my house. My current fiesta was vandalised first year I had it. Window and respray fault claim 3.4 k then hit scratched bumper non fault claim last summer which was a nightmare with the third party denying it. Cost 2.1k for bumper spray and blend which was a ridiculous charge.
It’s had more sprays than it’s been washed 😂
The repairs added up are going to be 8k
So now this inconsiderate van man who caused this damage has now caused me daily stress will make my insurance go up again. Premium raised for non fault bumper £150 so god knows how much for this new claim.
If only I could catch the driver !
What I don’t get is how the same approved repair garage can charge 2.1k for bumper spray and now agree to do a lot more repairs for under the cars value which guessing 5k market price 6-7 k trade price.
I think my insurer prefers not to write off they are using second hand and aftermarket parts to keep costs down.

I don’t think the wheels look bent and couldn’t see any big gaps between any panels but couldn’t drive it because no window or mirror. Couldn’t find the mirror red cap was all in pieces in the street.
I need to make sure the garage test drives it around bends and on the straight. They said it’s just cosmetic but I don’t know what assessment have been done to determine this. Haven’t seen or been offered an engineers report or told the market value. And no idea if it’ll be fixed by 19 th for MOT. Repair garage can’t find locking nut key which was in door pocket. Ford customer service phone advisor useless they don’t provide nut key number. I’m screwed without alloy nut key.
2 local Ford dealerships told me they can’t help. Now I know this I will always photograph the nut key reference codes for future car alloys.
I’m stuck don’t know what to do.
Can’t even find an old shed wheelbarrow to buy.
Don’t want Fred the fiesta back.
I’m cursed.
Sorry long story

By the pictures that does look only cosmetic. A used door, new front wing (very cheap) used door mirror and if you can get your own bodyshop to repaint the side of the car it might be worth cancelling the claim to save your ncd and ins excess.
  • Only a suggestion though as the car with more detailed pics may need more expenditure*

Legally you only need 2 mirrors to drive. This is how vans can legally have solid rear doors.
It doesnt state it has to be the drivers side mirror anywhere in the highway code.
A lot of vans still have the rear view mirror as a back up even though you cant see out of it.

Just a thought, have you asked your neighbours if their CCTV happens to cover your car, might view from a better angle and capture the half wits reg.
Living at the end house of a cul de sac our front camera views up the road a couple hundred yards.

Hi all thanks for trying to help.
I panicked when I found it hit and phoned insurance and thought my neighbour would help with his cctv but he’s not helping. I’ve knocked doors on streets for over a week and nobody will help. Either no footage or say their cctv broken. Nobody cares.
My family know mechanics and body repair contacts who offered to fix it but too late the insurance have started the fault claim. I got the garage courtesy car on Friday afternoon.
I wish I had not phoned insurance I’ve seen a matching exact door with mirror for £70
I’m totally gutted and lost all my confidence in having a car 😭
I know it’s only a car and I wasn’t hit because I would have been mince meat.
I’m stuck because I need my locking but key need it MOTd 19th so garage has about 8 working days to repair it and I somehow have to get alloys off change all locking nuts which is another huge bill.
I’m going to garage first thing before work to search car for nut key. They say they searched but off memory mine are just in a clear bag not a plastic box so I’m hoping the garage men have overlooked them.
If they are definitely missing (stolen) any ideas on costs to get the alloys off ?
The insurance garage are refusing to take them off?
Suppose I can ask family mechanic contacts if they have the tools equipment to do it if not will have to phone around some alloy shops ?

Oh also the insurance said just notifying them without proceeding with a claim raises my premiums. My NCD is protected. My excess is zero because I paid high more and the previous claim raised my premium even as non fault.
Insurance is a legal scam they get you in all ways. Never want to pay out.
Car wasn’t all my troubles, had to deal with blocked sewerage pipes on new years weekend. Fobbed off by water sewer company and council because of shared pipes between council owned and mortgaged houses. 3 days of phone calls literally up to it in crap.

They’ve given me a courtesy car 22 plate brand new aygo which I’m scared to drive scared to park on my drive and no way I can trust parking it anywhere near my work. My cars get little door prangs and hit bumpers because nobody knows how to park how to do turns off the small carpark. In 20 years of driving I’ve only had 1 accident my fault years and years ago but all this now is causing me anxiety and lost all my confidence.

You appear to have cost insurers a lot more than you have paid over the last few years. What an amazing scam it is!

Is public transport an option? Or getting a lift to work from a colleague?

I have bad luck.
It’s not my fault hit and run which is a crime not to stop
And if I was getting in or out the car at the time I would have been injured. We lost a good friend due to a driver smashing him as he was getting into his car on a street near by. So I wouldn’t say it’s a good scam. More unlucky and cursed. But it could have been my life taken too if I was there that moment.
Yes maybe I should just give up on cars and use public transport or get an electric bike.
I might even report our road to the council highways because people speed and I think quite a few car crashes.

I wouldn’t wish injuries death stolen cars hit and runs on anyone. Just damaged cars causes enough anxiety with all the chasing up insurance premiums rises. I’m always left with high insurance or excesses or both. And now left feeling lost with lots to sort out. Having a rant but at least I’m non injured or dead. But the other driver gets away with it not even feeling guilt. My car was parked normally on a wide road just mine the unlucky car.

Unfortunately that's not the case, post 1st August 1978, the offside rear view mirror is the mandatory one of the two required:

Sad to read your sorry tale Lisa. frown

So far as the wheel nuts are concerned you can buy kits online to remove them so any decent bodyshop ought to have a set. If not a tyre fitter might be able to help out.

Anyway I hope you get a decent outcome to your insurance claim. thumbup

Hi everyone
Good news is I got my car back yesterday and someone I know has found some lock nut keys.
The repair garage isn’t open today so I can’t query why I think the centre piece air bag cover looks misaligned. Bigger gag on the left side of wheel smaller gap on the right side and big gap on the top.
Unsure if they have inspected the air bag and not put it back on right ? I don’t remember the cover ever having a gap. Sure it was flush or couple of mm even gap all around.
See if you can see the uneven gap in photos
Should I phone the garage Monday ?
