F40 technical question
Discussion
Just a quick question . Many of the Ferrari F40`s I have seen advertised have had replacement fuel tanks despite being very low mileage . My own car (Porsche 924 Carrera) is equipped with a similar (in some ways ) pressurised fuel delivery system and is on its original 25 year old tank . Is there a design flaw with the F40`s tank or is there something I`m overlooking here ?
Ps not in the market to buy one until I get a bigger bonus !

I don't have an F40 either - though there are several owners posting here - but I believe the spec of the F40 fuel tank is higher than the one you're comparing it with. It has a race car type tank with a self-sealing property iirc and that deteriorates with age. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. They are due to be replaced every 10k miles.
The F40 'tanks' are in fact bags which do perish.
There is also a problem with the valves on the old ones where under high cornering loads fuel can come out of the valves and leak on to the manifolds with some pretty severe results.
One bloke on Ferrarichat's F40 caught fire on a trackday earlier this year. They put it out but not before it had done some serious damage to the engine bay and melted half of the rear boot / spoiler section (which is £18K to replace on its own )

Er - I thought it was to do with the fact that they are carbon fibre - as they didn't know what the lifetime would be.........
It is effectively a mandatory replacement every 10 years (at around £17K) for the pair.
Still a great car (espeacially on the way back from Spa!!) - I Will post some piccies and the vid at some point!
