I ordered an ID3 family spec back in Oct 2021. With Govt grant, PCP contribution (I intend to pay cash straight after) and the VW dealer contribution, it's costing a little bit under £30k. That's with me upgrading the alloys and BHP to pro performance which cost almost £2k

Car was for me, but I've kind of fell in love with the stop gap BMW 5 series GT I bought while waiting for ID3

So I said to my other half who wants an electric to replace her car, but she wants an SUV

I've got a bit of free equity in the ID3, and £32.6k offer from motorway (was over £40k a few months back lol)

I'm considering buying it and offering it up as a trade in? Would a Audi or Jag dealership even entertain this scenario? ID3 arrives next week sometime.

A new lower spec car, the ID3 life spec retails at £37k now and they don't even sell the Family anymore, but would likely be £40k area if they did

Cars I'm looking at:

2020 etron at £38k and motorway offer would be £34k

2019 iPace at £37.5k and motorway offer would be £30k

If they did entertain my brand new car as a trade in, what supplement do you think I would be asked to pay?

I know it's not possible to give a defined answer here, but ballpark, how would you see this playing out?

Eg, motorway value my car more than the iPace but no doubt, I'm still going to have to give Jaguar the ID3 plus cash. Question is, what number should I shoot for?

One thing to note regarding the valuation Motorway have given you is that it’s an estimate, ie it’s what they think you MAY achieve. It’s not an offer to buy at this price.

I’ve used them three times now, the first time I made just over £1k more than their estimate, the second received no offers at all and the third received an offer of around £2k under the estimate. Something to bear in mind.

Brand new or not, you’re still likely to get a normal part-ex process and valuation based on the usual criteria, the same as Motorway and others will use. I doubt they’ll do anything much different just because it’s so new.

Personally, I’d go through the Motorway process and see what it brings you at auction. You can back out if you’re not happy with the final offer, but if it’s good it’s possibly a stronger position having cash when buying the replacement. You can then let the selling dealer tell you how to get the best deal, i.e. outright cash, or a special finance deal they want to push (which you could immediately pay off).
