How quickly are new passports getting sent out?

Gov website says allow up to 10 weeks.....I go away just a shade under 10 weeks away.

Am I going to be safe applying for it today, or are they being slow and I'm screwed?

Can't speak for right now but last year I did two renewals for the family and both were under two weeks.

A relative got theirs back in around 3 weeks recently so i think you'll be fine. Get the application in ASAP!

In November, if took 10 days for my wife's passport renewal

My wife got her renewal in a week just before Christmas. She used the post office application service, where they do everything for you online, including photo.

And here too. I thought it was remarkably efficient. I did all the 'paperwork', photo, payment online and then I was kept informed by text at what stage my application was at (received your application, received your passport, it's being printed...). Couldn't fault them.

And here too. I thought it was remarkably efficient. I did all the 'paperwork', photo, payment online and then I was kept informed by text at what stage my application was at (received your application, received your passport, it's being printed...). Couldn't fault them.

Great, I'll be doing it all online too. I assume it's not too hard to make sure the photo is done as it should be? That's the only part I imagine could go wrong if you have a hint of a smile or a cat hair on your forehead or something.

It was probably the photo that took me the longest to do as I was on my own, so had to set up my camera on the tripod - thankfully I have a remote release - but then having to go back to the camera and check the photo. Plus, it was a bit of a sunshine/cloudy day so then waiting for a bright spell and no shadows... Just checked - I took 51 photos and managed to get one that I was happy to submit as it met all the criteria!

I did my application this morning online. I've just posted my passport. I'm travelling in about 6 weeks. I'm not worried.

why not just use a photo booth?!

very quick turnaround time for renewals. scare stores are just click bait. yes a few cases especially with wrong photos and rejections due to idiocy, but anyone who can fill in the forms correctly and provide the simple to follow photo guidelines will have it done in at worst couple of weeks.

Applied for my 17 year old last Spring. Plenty of scare stories but I wasn't worried.

The online witness bit was fast and approved. Then nothing for 3 months despite countless phonecalls to idiots.

Finally spoke to someone who knew what they were doing after 10 weeks and the passport turned up 2 weeks later.

I'm sure most will be fine and I was just unlucky.

As others have said. Applied on line renewal. Code for new photo. New passport was with us in a week.

Done my lad’s a month back.

Uploaded details on a Fri. Got knocked back on the photo the next day. Re-submitted new photo on the Sun. Passport in hand On Fri.

Thought that was bloody quick! Apparently now is a good time to do it before the Easter/summer rush.

Done it all today, including sending old one back

Weirdly, Mrs UTH took loads of photos of me, all looked like they should be ok but the online thing kept saying they were poor, I ended up taking one myself just with outstretched arms and it came up as good!?
I guess there's still a chance it'll get rejected, but here's hoping.
