Episode two was last night, I found episode one on Catch-up.

Two massive extensions to Claridge's, without spoilers one using the most mind blowing method of excavation you could up with and the installation of the tower crane for the second was, err, unusual!

I think they're taking a bit of a risk by not telling guests the work is taking place.

Loved this - I can’t imagine the investment involved especially as they had to close for Covid.

The look on the GM's face when asked if they were telling guests, and the pause before he answers, was telling!

hehe

Fascinating project. No mention of the cost as yet. The tunnelling is like Colin Furze on a mega scale.

Good analogy. I’m not sure what is more amazing, the ability to think of the idea or to actually execute it.

There is so much dross on tv at the moment so it’s great to see a well made programme about something really interesting.

+1

And also a job being done well and problems dealt with effectively. Things seem to be presented honestly with no faux jeopardy which many of these fly on the wall series are afflicted with.

Very good point. I’d got so engrossed with the technicalities of it these points had escaped me until now.

Bit confusing calling it Mayfair Hotel when it isn't the "Mayfair Hotel".

Is the owner beyond wearing a hard hat?

Would love to know the costs?

I was curious as well, and when I googled I found this article, which although doesn’t give a cost for the renovations, does provide some interesting information regarding a legal dispute with the Qataris and the Irish partner -

https://www.irishtimes.com/business/2022/06/10/pad...

When the hotel was purchased they did say that Claridge would need £250 million to upgrade it so this is probably a decent ball park.

"London Hotel Megabuild" wouldn't carry quite the same cachet.

The title is saying it's a hotel in Mayfair. Not a hotel called the Mayfair Hotel.

This. Plus being the beeb, they’re unlikely to be seen to pimp the ‘brand’ by using the hotel name itself.
