The MG is going to rocket up that chart this year I bet.

I also think that if they could make them half as fast as people want to buy them, the i4 could have been up in third for 22'.

Lots of people in the mainstream euroland auto industry should be planning their retirement?

yes

Although in reality I suspect it's more likely BMW and Mercedes will return to being proper luxury brands that people don't mind paying quite a bit more for. It's great that for the last 20 years almost anyone has been able to proudly stick a beemer on the driveway, but for a lot longer before then these marques were seen as the preserve of the relatively wealthy. I think that's where they're headed back to.

I'm really not sure about VW's future. They have from day one quite literally been all about cars for the people. They can no longer make cars for the people half as cheaply as the Chinese and Koreans can. You can't charge an extra £10-15k on the basis of the door making a nice clunk noise when you slam it.

Looks like all that talk of the Kia EV6 and Hyundai 5 showing the European's how it's done hasn't materialized then?

Always assumed they'd struggle jumping into the £50k marketplace in the UK, do we think these results bear that out when even Polestar with such a limited model line are outselling them?

Give it time, and likely a price drop. They can be cheaper than cars made in Europe for sure.

I wonder if those figures are distorted by delivery delays? No idea what the lead times are, but I understand that some are quite lengthy.

A neighbour has the Mini EV and it’s a great looking car. We’ve looked at an EQE and are very impressed.
Hopefully there are serious plans in place for the charging network as 2023 is looking like a big year for EV.

Most likely because Kia can't get enough of the EV6. When I enquired at our local dealer, I was told there was a year's waiting list

To a great degree this is a list of ‘how many can you make’ rather than ‘how many can you sell’.

Things are slowly getting back to normal. But chips shortages are still a thing and it’s weird how many parts are/were made in Ukraine.

I suspect the numbers on that list would be very different if the other manufacturers were more agile in their parts supply and usage, many limited including Kia and Hyundai.

Be interesting to see how they look with the MG4 appearing this year.

I expect it'll take a significant bite out of the Kia, Nissan, VW and Mini sales numbers on the list. Tesla, not so much as playing in a different pool.

The eniro sells well as sits in the pocket below Tesla and offers a very compelling mix of price and range, hence the MG4 taking a bite. The historical benefits of buying Korean (price and long warranty) are far less clear with things like the EV6/i5 costing £50k and the general lack of maintenance with EV's.

Good cars I agree, but they are going to have to change perceptions to sell in big numbers and that takes time.

This ins't a list of cars delivered/registered though, it's actual sales?

I think SJ means that they're selling all they can get, and if they could have got more, they would have sold them.

Yes. Tesla are relatively insulated from a lot of the various upsets, so they've been able to deliver a lot of cars (relatively).

We won't know the true popularity picture until you can call any of the regular manufacturers to order a car and not be told '12 months to 2 years lead time'.

I think the issue, certainly around the Ioniq 5 was lack of supply, not that demand has been low. If anything Hyundai underestimated how popular they would be with each allocation selling out in minutes. Lots of reports of long waiting lists and frustration over lack of supply.

This coming year I wouldn't be surprised it the MG easily makes the top 3. If Dacia finally bring the Spring here that will be straight into the charts.
