Chaps,

Was looking at a BMW M3 enine the other day, the overall look of this engine is similar to the speed six. ie/ Straight 6, similar capacity, canted over in installation, distictive exhaust note etc.....

Someone metioned in a recent thread that the original Al Melling design was used by a mainstream manufacturer, is this it???????

Does anyone know?

I've heard and driven a few (modern) M3's and i wouldn't have said they have a distinctive exhaust note?

Well, BMW did have to recall them due to a design fault so it is perfectly possible that it is a TVR design

The fact that it cants over the wrong way did not strike you as odd.. it's nothing like the S6..

Al Melling said - the cylinder head design was similar (based on) the old Suzuki (oil cooled) GSXR engine but oil cooling was ruled out after tests on a single cylinder mock up.

with an E34 M3 going for not much difference in price to a S6 rebuild, you have to agree the possibilites to replace the S6 need to be considered....

Either a BMW 6 pot or a small block V8.

Anyone researched this or, god forbid, done it???
